I was wondering if it is better to Use GordianKnot with x264 or Doom9's Megui? The x264 Guide still has GordianKnot as the frontend. Is this still the best way and a megui guide just has not been written yet?

as i would say that avc should be placed in .mp4 (and if you use another audio format than aac or mp3 in .mkv) i would say that megui should be prefered

I agree with bond, AVC in MP4 is to be prefered over AVC in AVI. Hopefully by the time the appropriate hardware arrives, MP4 support will be a common thing. And the MeGUI guide will come, but I still have my PC patient (SN25P and X2, a long, sad and seemingly neverending story) to take care of.

I've been following that sad story, sorry to hear it is not fixed yet.

I have a media server and 3 client PCs and I do not plan on ever using a STB again. I use SageTV as a frontend.

Right now I use Nero Recode's AVC implementation and I was just curious about x264's speed in comparison. Also, Nero's low audio volume is getting VERY annoying.

Anyways, I hope you get the shuttle issue resolved and I will be looking foward to the MeGUI guide.

you can also encode the audio seperately and than mux it with your avc stream

well, I already posted some speed numbers in the news. I don't have the new avc commandline encoder currently in beta testing (it's the first one to be smp optimized) so I cannot compare the speed.
