Possible Interlace / Progressive Bug DGMPGDec?

Ok I have a PAL 25fps 16:9 DVD media that Gspot v2.52 B01 tells me is an interlaced video source.

However in DGMPGDec v1.4.1 Beta 4, opening this media in DGIndex I see it being reported as a progressive video source.

So, which is it? Which do I trust?

Im not sure how important it is to deinterlace media before encoding it in MPG4-ASP.

Also, Ive noticed with Gspot it will never tell me if a XVID/DIVX avi file is interlaced or progressive.

only deinterlace/decomb, if you SEE interlacing lines.

Yeah there seems to be something buggy going on. Ive never seen interlacing lines and until now when I discovered this issue in my research I was unaware of needing to think about deinterlacing when transcoding.

I did further experiments with a supposedly interlaced source where I (a) didnt deinterlance and (b) made it progressive in virtualdub and when I used mpeg4modifier to suss out another way if the files were reported correctly as being/not being interlaced, that was bugged as well. I didnt read any files as interlaced.

DGIndex correctly reports whether the MPEG2 pictures are encoded as interlaced or progressive. This is not the same thing as saying the content itself is interlaced or progressive.
