Dvd -R DL ...should these not be used...?

Hi...

I am looking into Dvd-r DL ...have heard that these-r dl are not worth using for dvd movie back ups/or ps2 back ups because they don't handle the layer breaks the same,
Is this true...?

layer breaks are pretty bad in +R DL as well... i think it's mostly a software thing - there doesn't really exist any way to set the layer-break properly in burning software (you should be able to put it in a good place, like a fade-to-black or a quiet scene, just before a cut).

one thing i'd like to see in recordable media is the ability to go OTP or PTP for a dual-layer disc. if this were possible, along with manually setting a layer-break (or better still, be able to rip the layer break info from a source disc), then perfect 1:1 copies of pressed discs would be possible.

i've not tried -R DL discs because i haven't seen them for sale (are they even available in australia? windows XP 64 bit isn't even available here :()

Hi...the discs are available in uk(on-line)(svp/cd-rmedia).
The +r dl I have used with perfesct results using dvd decrypter,and the layer breaks are perfectly duplicated + you can set the layer break manually using decrypter.

When someone does feel the courage to try a dvd-r dl ,please post results...for ps2 + movie's...
