using DVD2SVCD
I converted a DVD movie: The Matrix, length 2 hrs 16 min. (136 min)
I used the SVCD encoder: QuEnc 0.61
My bitrate tab settings were:
Between 0 and 50 mins. Use 1 CD size 800
Between 50 and 100 mins. Use 2 CD size 800
Between 100 and 150 mins. Use 3 CD size 800
Between 150 and 200 mins. Use 4 CD size 800
Between 200 and 250 mins. Use 5 CD size 800
Between 250 and 9999 mins. Use 6 CD size 800
Max. 2628 Min. 2628 min. avg 2628 (checked) Max. avg 2628
Warn if total bitrate is too high was checked
My SVCD movie times per CD were as follows:
CD 1: 57:03 (806 MB)
CD 2: 51:41 (806 MB)
CD 3: 27:38 (442 MB)
CD 4: 0:03 (1.47 MB) Yes, 3 seconds on CD 4
I thought line 3 would apply: Between 100 and 150 mins. Use 3 CD size 800
which would mean approx. 45:20 would go on each of 3 CD's.
Whats going on here ?
Using these same settings I did a test of a short 12:14 mid section of the movie and it resulted in a CD of 202 MB. All things being equal, I should have gotten 3 CD's with CD 1: 48:48, CD 2: 48:48, CD 3: 38:24
(the total times adding up to 136 min.)
The times I actually got over 4 CD's is nuts.
Previously someone suggested using 2 pass VBR.
Well, I tried this a couple of times and there was a tiny improvement, like maybe a 1% more uniform time distribution (like maybe 30 seconds more was added to the last short CD - next to no improvement in other words - hardly justifies the double encoding time required.

By the way I've gotten such wacky time distributions when I used more typical bitrate settings (if there is such a thing) such as:
Between 0 and 60 mins. Use 1 CD size 800
Between 60 and 120 mins. Use 2 CD size 800
Between 120 and 180 mins. Use 3 CD size 800
Between 180 and 240 mins. Use 4 CD size 800
Between 240 and 300 mins. Use 5 CD size 800
Between 300 and 9999 mins. Use 6 CD size 800
Max. 2520 Min. 340 min. avg 1200 (checked) Max. avg 2628

By the way I've gotten such wacky time distributions when I used more typical bitrate settings (if there is such a thing) such as:
Between 0 and 60 mins. Use 1 CD size 800
Between 60 and 120 mins. Use 2 CD size 800
Between 120 and 180 mins. Use 3 CD size 800
Between 180 and 240 mins. Use 4 CD size 800
Between 240 and 300 mins. Use 5 CD size 800
Between 300 and 9999 mins. Use 6 CD size 800
Max. 2520 Min. 340 min. avg 1200 (checked) Max. avg 2628
Can anyone olease help ? Thanks in advance.
