I want to listen to my dvd player using headphones. Neither my dvd player or my tv have a headphone jack. I'm going to be standing right next to the dvd player walking on a noisy treadmill so I would prefer to just use a cord rather than spend the cash on some wireless headphones. I could move a stereo down there and use the rca in/ headphone out but I'd rather not. Would a converter like I circled in this picture work or would I need an amp? Also, what is that converter called? Can't find it on radioshack.com. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't think there's really any name for that cable - it's just a stereo RCA plug to headphone jack socket cable. I don't think you'll need an amplifier, though you may want a volume control somewhere!

I don't think you'll need an amplifier, though you may want a volume control somewhere!Depending on the connector on your headphones, you could either use, an twin (RCA) phono to 3.5mm stereo socket lead, or a twin (RCA) phono to 1/4" stereo socket lead.

If your DVD player offers "volume" control level adjustment via the remote control (some do, most don't), you'll be able to adjust... well, the volume control level. If not... you'll be stuck with a fixed volume level ;)

Unless you have headphones with a volume control, of course!

Unless you have headphones with a volume control, of course! Agreed...

But lets not forget the volume level from a DVD players phono outputs is quite low. And depending on the sensitivity of your headphones, it might be too low for optimum listening...
