I have heard VHS tapes will deteriorate over time, so I wanted to copy some of my old commercial tapes to DVD.

The first problem I had after copying and then playing the .AVI files, there was a lot of lines running across at times and occasional flashes when scenes changed.
There was no problem with the sound.

I was told this was possibly “Macrovision”, a copy protection system that is on the VHS tape.
I was further advised to use a Video Enhancer and/or Stabiliser and the problem would be solved.

I purchased a unit from Jaycar Electronics and connected my video signal through the unit.
This did take the lines and flashes out and the video was very clear, however, when I play the .AVI file there is a lot of crackling on the sound track.

I would appreciate some advise as to correcting the problem as I have already paid for the tapes in the first place, so why should I pay for a second time to buy the same on DVD, if it is available.
