IFOEdit 0.971 No Vob Unit?

Hi, Im tracking to do a personal use backup of some TV show DVDs I have.

Im using smart ripper to copy the whole DVD down to my PC. Then I am using smartripper to pull out the episodes I want, with stream processing for just english audio and no subs, and with no creation of index files, no ifo file copy and so on.

It looks good, I have each episode ripped into seperate directories, each spans two vobs. Some of the original vobs contain more than one episode so I have it into seperate directories.

Im trying to use IFOEdit 0.971 to create a new IFO file. When I go to create the IFO with create 1 pgc only and create chapter for each cell I get the following error message:

"could not find any VOB unit in the VOB file(s)"

Please help.

hi Bathrone,
for what you are wanting to do i would use dvdshrink in re-author mode. you can strip streams (audio, subs) and set the start and end points too. some good guides can be found here (http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php).
after you did this you can fix it up using pgcedit. "DVDShrink Remote Buttons" macro or this guide Adding a still frame presentation menu on a DVDShrink reauthored DVD (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/r0lz/still_frame_menu/still_frame_menu.html).

just one thing, you would have to rip the whole dvd(ifo too) for dvdshrink to open it.

Hi, thanks, but no. I want to transcode the DVD to Divx. Compressing them with further bitrate reduction in mpeg2 wont meet my quality requirements.

The transcode tool wont recognise the audio stream in the vob and I need to feed it a "right" IFO file to get it.

would it help to just demux audio & video streams -- will transcode tool you're using accept them?

As sweetness suggested, if you do need a DVD structure for transcoding, set DVD shrink to use 100% compression levels - this way you can drop the parts you don't want, yet still retain existing structure.

Might also try some of the other tools/guides listed here, try putting entire DVD on hard disc & then removing parts/retaining structure.
