im going to capture vhs tapes with an old hauppauge wintv card.
since it wasnt possible to get good resolution with the original capture device, i downloaded the capture device from http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/.
im able to choose conxeant btPCI capture in the menu from virtual dub now.

i get good preview in virtual dub and set everyting to video format: 720*576 YUY2.
when i actually start the capturing process, problems appear: there are 2 previews: one is 720*288 containing the whole picture, the other is 720*576 but showing only half of the picture. when looking in my output file, i see my picture in 720*288 which looks very bad.

what do i do wrong ?

there was a small test program from the site, i got the device from. using that program i could capture in 720*576! but i need virtualdub to make it as well.

please help me.

thanks.

I'd research your card... It may not be able to capture full size, both fields, or it might not be able to do full-sized preview & full sized capture etc...

Worse comes to worse, check out new hardware (I've found some of the cheapest, though often not current at surpluscomputers). Not a plug really -- I'm just by nature cheap.

using directshow capture 2.7.2 (40kb) i get 720*576 captured ok.

i tried capturing without making preview, but makes no difference.

i dont want to buy a new card.

Hopefully someone with experience with your hardware & V/dub can provide more info.

Personally I'd still recomend doing a bit of research on your card, including searching for your exact model of capture card, & then adding VirtualDub... Could search on the exact BT chipset, and also on that chipset & Virtualdub. Try including info on your OS etc. & model of card when searching and here.

The BT video chips come in several different versions, and particularly with the older cards, different chip features were enabled in different ways. Some will only capture one field (ie. 720 x 288), and require software to interpolate the missing data to make up a full frame, like some of the ATI TV cards (not AIW). If that's your situation, then it should be fairly easy to find out how other folks deal with it when capturing & as it relates to capture with V/Dub.

If that's not what's happening, if your card does allow full capture without interpolation, then it's more likely the problem is drivers &/or settings in V/Dub for capture.

good luck
