Hi,

I'm a newbie (only been backing up my DVDs for about 2 weeks), usding DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink 3.2. I've done about 20 movies without any problems....but right now 3 are giving me a hard time. When I try to use either DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink, the movies fail to decode (Decrypter) or encode (DVD Shrink), saying it's encountered a "Cyclic Redundancy Error".

Is there anything I can do to get around this problem?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum:

This error is usually caused by a dirty or scratched disc. Try cleaning it and re-ripping. If this doesn't work, run a search on "Cyclic Redundancy Error". If you're still having problems at that point, run a search on the title that's giving you problems, it might be one of the known "problem" discs.

Thanks a lot, I've taken a look and the discs are pretty scratched - I'll try cleaning them and ripping again!

Suggest using Nero CD-DVD Speed (http://www.cdspeed2000.com) to check your original DVD title for Mastering Errors. To check a DVD for errors is rather a simple task and Nero CD-DVD Speed is a free diagnostic tool. You can obtain a free copy of Nero CD-DVD Speed at (http://www.cdspeed2000.com)
When using Nero CD-DVD Speed if the Scan Disc shows Red (Bad) sectors this reveals errors. In this day and age of mass-produced DVDs it is not unusual to receive a defective DVD disk.
