which player?

i usually used divx player to playback all current divx and xvid content (avi files). then i came across some matroska files and installed this "matroska full" package which includes ffdshow. now the divx player wont playback xvid avis any more, only divx. reinstalling divx player doesnt fix this.

so id like to ask if anyone knows why this is and how to fix it, or

if there is any player out there which has the same nice features as the divx player, like
-double click on picture for full screen (wmp 10 has it, 6.4 hasnt)
-space for pause (wmp 6.4 has it, 10 hasnt)
-controls "on screen" on single click (wmp 10 has these bars on top and bottom of the screen, this is much less convenient than the little popup divx player has)

i kind of hope there must be such a player since i imagine that everyone would find these things convenient.

If you like simple interface, similar to WMP6.4 with powerful feature and free, Media Player Classic for you.

ZoomPlayer is similar with MPC, but with more...in User Interface, but only the standard version are free.

zoomplayer:
doubleclick does nothing, just pause and unpause
space doesnt pause but activates an osd
its terribly clumsy to use an osd which is not activated by mouse but by pressing a key (space), furthermore the osd has no volume control
score: 0.5/3

mediaplayer classic:
space - pause, good. 1 point
doubleclick fullscreen, but jerky since the first click pauses, the second unpauses and goes full screen 0.8 points
osd on moving mouse to bottom, not as nice but popup but will do 0.7 points
score: 2.5/3

doubleclick - fullscreen, good
space - nothing
- loading time almost as nasty as acrobat
- video upside down
- doubleclick on a file only opens the player, doesnt load the file
score: -2/3

i will stick with media player classic then, thank you.
still: does anyone have a clue why divx player may have stopped to play xvid content?

about zoomplayer: you can easily configurate mouse settings in the options.... although there are thousands of other values...
about divx player: try to diable xvid decoding in ffdshows video configuration...

the settings in that codecs table dont seem to have any influence, i can disable or enable divx, the player still plays it, i can disable or enable xvid, but the player still doesnt play it.

now i played a little with media player classic and found that it seems to do its own audio rendering. how can i make it use ffdshow audio again? im used to it for normalizing and stuff.

try Crystal Player !

The Core media player (TCMP) may suit. Simply untick internal matroska and ogm support at install as it can cause problems. you can customise keys in options too.
Everyone has their own favourite players as you can see. I can't imagine why the mkv pack interferes with divx player, but unless it has improved greatly since I last used it (admittedly a long time), I can't think of a single thing going for it :)

as for mpc, you can disable internal audio in options. you can disable/enable a ton and a half of stuff in options as a matter of fact

Yes, it is true that one person's media player is another persons pain in the ass. Yes, as naimh points out you can use fdd in this player and you may be interested there is a very useful (although not perfect English) MPC help file available here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=144472)

after playing a little more with mpc if was able to deactivate mouseclick for pause, making the switch to full screen smooth.
also i was able to use ffdshow audio again because its possible to like manage priorities for filters.

Crystal Player is very nice, but it's seekbar is so HUGE and CLUMSY its driving me NUTS trying to aim with it :(

Light Alloy. I think it is one of the best players. Just imho of course but it is very fast player (zoomplayer is extremely slow comparing to LA) with very big amount of features.

By a mouse wheel click you can go to full screen and back, by scrolling the wheel you can rewind backward or forward on whatever amount of seconds you want (or to tune sound level). Right click - pause, left click brings up the control panel menu. It shows a timespan on a seekbar. Also this player supports subtitles without installing any additional software.

The only knock on this little app that it is not free.

That's question not to me but to authors :) though it has only a nagscreen if I am not mistaken and no limits in using.

Double-Click for fullscreen is it's old standard. I hated it and reconfigured it, but hey, seems someone want it! :D
