Help choosing video editing software

I have recently started to use windows movie maker but it is very unstable, could anyone suggest an alternative?

Ulead's VideoStudio 9 has gotten very good ratings - it's easy to use and is pretty flexible, including MPEG-4 plugins. It is intended for DV to DVD conversion, but you can still import and edit other formats.

Ulead video studio (as stated above) and mpeg video wizard are my 2 favorite editing programs. you can d/l a trial version of either from their website
