O.k...been reading all about ILVU and DVDRB. My question what is it (I know it's different angles), but do you see these during normal viewing of a DVD?
How would you know a DVD even has them?
Do you need to use your remote to view them during the movie or must you select them before pressing play?
Is this somehting that a transcoder like DVDShrink would strip off?
TIA

When we use the term ilvu ( we being doom9ers ) we usually refer to seamless branching movies...(it means more than that but i'll refer to it that way) like t2 or abyss which has multiple variations of the same film ie a directors cut and theatrical. its done by interleaving sections of the movie where there are differences together. similar to how angles are done except seamless branch uses different pgcs (play lists) and angles use the same play list with the option to switch angles .. (i am shortening a long story)
but do you see these during normal viewing of a DVD?well... for seamless branch you would see the 'playlist' or movie you chose.. you dont have the option to switch to the other playlist ie switch from directors cut to theatrical in the equivelant time period.
angles you can switch back and forth (although sometimes the dvd is programmed to not allow this when, for example, the angle is for a credits in a second language)..
\
when you are playing either angles or 'ilvu' you cant really 'see' that you are watching them.. it appears to play back normally (some dvd players will flash an angle indicator so you know you can switch during angle playback)
How would you know a DVD even has them?just viewing them you may not.. you can see the angle indicator with ifoedit. also as i stated many dvd players will inform you during angle sections. usually you get nothing for 'ilvu'. also most dvds with these enhancements advertise them.
Do you need to use your remote to view them during the movie or must you select them before pressing play?angles: can always be switched with remote unless the remote is locked out by dvd commands. sometimes you have to select with menu. and sometimes you have both available. 'ilvu': always with a menu. although some dvd players will let you jump to a diferent title/chapter with remote this doesnt substitute a 'ilvu' equivelant of an angle button.
Is this somehting that a transcoder like DVDShrink would strip off?dvdshrink fully supports angles/'ilvu'. set to default it would not strip them. i havent used dvdshrink enough to know if it supports stripping them if the user requests, but i would guess it does.

Thanks so much for this explaination. I just saw jdobbs latest DVDRB pro (with I am a VIP member)..it's biggest addition seems to be Ilvu. So I was curious. I know it's probably a very "newbie" question. But I appreciate your time to answer me.
THanks again
