View Full Version : Slow Ripping and Bad Burns

I have been copying DVD's for around a year and recently I have been talking to friends whose burners perform much better than mine. My burner is a Sony DRU-700a DL (VYO8 firmware). My computer is a Athlon XP 2100, 1GB PC 2700 DDR Ram (2x512), ASUS A7V8X motherboard, Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64mb, WinXP Home. It takes DVD Decrypter around 1.5 hours to rip a ~8GB DVD and then it takes around 3.5 hours for DVD Shrink to do a deep analysis and encode, and then the burn will usually fail in DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, or Nero, since I upgraded to the newest firmware from the site that DVD Decrypter takes me to. Before I upgraded the firmware the burns would always burn correctly but I am trying to cut down my time for burning a DVD. My friend has a Sony DRU-710a DL and after he upgraded the firmware he can rip a disc in 15 min and burn it at full speed without any failed burns! I have made the DVD drive the master (both jumpers and cable) and I have tried burning at the slowest speed possible. I am using Memorex 8x DVD+R's. Any suggestions on how to get my burner running properly?

Thanks,
Mark

Read this thread (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44808) on DMA. Sounds like yours is off. DVDD should not take that long to rip.

Concerning Burning try a different media Memorex is not noted for consistant quality. They use several makers of DVD's...prodisk, ritek etc.
