the software crashes when i try to open .ogm files even if i rename them as avi's. I tried following the TMPGenc (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=TMPGEnc) problem tips like putting the "direct show multimedia file reader" in higher priority etc.. but nothing works.. this is the error that i get

i tried uninstalling and installing so many times...and tried different versions..plus..etc..nothing works

Are there subtitles in your OGM file? The error seems to be in vsfilter.dll (part of the vobsub package for viewing subtitles.

It would be helpful to know what the audio format is as well. The problem lies with the fact that many players can play OGM, MKV etc with BUILT IN splitters, but you need to have them installed in your system as well in order for TMPGEnc to be able to access the file via direct show.

Renaming the files is a bad idea, the internal structure of an AVI is different from an OGM file. If all else fails, convert the OGM to an avi or demux the audio and video.
