View Full Version : Putting Ac3 back into the vob?

I've never messed with the audio on a dvd before, but I decided that I would like to normalize the audio on my movies. (compress the dynamic range..or whatever) Anyway, I am not really sure how to do it, but this is what I have done so far: First I ripped the dvd with decryptor in file mode and stripped the audio streams, the 6 channel ac3, 2-channel, and DTS sound files..so I have the normal vob's and some files that are named:
VTS_01_1 - 0X80 - AUDIO - AC3 - 6CH - 48KHZ - DRC - ENGLISH - DELAY -66MS.AC3
VTS_01_1 - 0X82 - AUDIO - AC3 - 2CH - 48KHZ - DRC - ENGLISH - DELAY -66MS.AC3
VTS_01_1 - 0x89 - Audio - DTS - 6ch - 48kHz - DRC - English - DELAY -66ms.DTS

For the Ac3 files I used belights dynamic compression to hopefully compress it how I want (the DTS I think I will just leave). I couldn't find anything about anyone doing this before, so this is what I have done, could be completely wrong, just been going on trial and error.

Anyway, how do I put the audio files back into the Vob's? I'm not totally sure if it is possible, maybe I need a better understanding of dvd structure.

Thanks all.

Problem is, if your going to do this, you have to competely recompress the AC3 files using either the freeware inbuilt Besweet AC3 encoder (low quality) or higher quality alternatives (that cost money), such as Soft Encode, Nero and a few others such as TMPG which has an AC3 encoder now i believe.

Im not sure if you can just throw the AC3's back into the original structure, i suppose you could import the old menu system and keep that using a program such as DVD Lab to recompile the entire content tho. I dont have any experience with keep menus...

the easiest way is to use the the 'Author a new DVD' option inside of IFOEDIT

Tip:
also rip the chapters (and subtitels) - they can be added there, too.

-> take a look at the video section of this board -> those guys are really good :D

Edit:
I thought PGCEdit allows to change tracks inside an existant structure

Muxman (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=93553) can create a whole new set of .VOB, .IFO and .BUP files for you.... It can even generate muxes with chapter points!
