I have a copy of Nero 6 OEM suite. The user manual describes using Burning Rom, and alot of DVD burning guides describe using Burning Rom, but I can't find anyway to use just Burning Rom. It's not under program files, and the silly Smart Start interface has no way that I can see to access it. Do I have to spring for the ultra addition to get decent burn software?

Here's the default shortcut path:

Target: "C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero\nero.exe"

Start in: "C:\PROGRAM FILES\NERO\Nero"

If that doesn't work, try the "Ahead" folder in Program files:

C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero.exe

If you have one of the souped-up editions, it will be one layer deeper, but just getting into the Ahead folder will put you within stirking distance. You might be looking at something like this:

C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\nero.exe

CWR03--Hmm...the command path I gave above is to a standalone version of Nero 6 Ultra Edition; does the command path to the OEM versions point straight to a "Nero" folder, instead of the "Ahead" folder? It's been so long since I looked at an OEM version that I can't recall, and I'm not going to pull out a dusty old version 5 to check it out. :)

I was helping a friend last week (IM and phone), he has one of the 6 series OEM's, and after trying and trying to get him pointed to Nero Burning Rom where I could show him how to use the compilation panes via the old drag-and-drop move, we decided that he just didn't have the full capabilites at his disposal with the OEM version. Apparently, it is stripped down, a bit.

With your version, I don't think you have use of the full pane compilation utility I just described, but if you boot into "Nero Express" from "Start Smart", you can build custom data discs, but you'll have to select your files and click on the "Add" button. You can do about anything else you want to, as far as I could tell, but you just don't have the full Nero 6 Burning Rom.

So, to speak specifically to your question, if you want the full Nero Burning Rom, yes, you need to upgrade. Can you do without it? I think the answer to this is a "yes", too, if you just get in there and dig around a bit.

Thanks. I tried executing the file from the directory. There is a file that says Burning Rom, but it only opens Express. Oh well. Since most of the tutorials I've read deal with Burning Rom, I had hoped I could get it to work.

It seems like it only has Express and no Burning Rom included.
