XviD-1.0.3-20122004 and Nic's 6/4/05

I encoded some video using Nic's XviD under XP. I sent the file to a friend who is using NT4.0. He downloaded the XviD-1.0.3-20122004 decoder and installed it on his pc. However, the video would not play on his PC. I then tried this on one of my pc's which happend to have NT4.0 on it. Using XviD-1.0.3-20122004 both Virtualdubmod and VirtualDub1.65 both close with no messages. Removing this and installing Nic's XviD. I get an error message

Couldn't locate decompressor for format XVID (Unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows compatible codec to decompress videw ...

Also, I do not see the XviD in the video compressors in virtualdubmod. or virtualdubmod. I tried manually registering the xvid.zx file and it succeeded.

Any problem using these under NT 4.0? Are these codec automatically downloaded when trying to play a video with these codecs? Any way the codec could be included with the avi file so that it will work on a pc that does not have the codec already installed?

xvid.ax is the dshow decoder. It has nothing to do with VDub.
Try Koepi's latest as if I recall correctly it includes a util for checking vidc entries which may be where the problem lies.

I only used VDub to see why the video was not opening. I generally get better error messages through it then from mplayer.

Keopi's version, beta2 also is not working. VDub closes with no exit messages. I am going to recode the video using another codec, but I sure would like to know what the problem is. I think that it must be NT since it works perfectly in my XP box.. I want to use codecs that will work with others pc, but still offer good compression and good quality video.

The pc where I am having the problem is an intel pentium 4 2.4 ghz with 512mb ram running NT 4.0. I have limited control over this as this is not my pc. I have access to use this with limited capability and so was able to try the various XviD binaries on it. The pc where I created the avi as an AMD1800+ with 1 gig of ram and XP professional sp2.

The video was created from a capture from my MYHD 100 tv card. I had used avisynth and vdubmod with the latest dgindex to create the avi file using nic's latest xvid binaries. I tested avi's created with microsfot mpeg-4 v1, and they work without a problem. I do not have these anymore when I re-installed xp on XP. Most likely some software I no longer use installed them.

I can send you any information you want about the system, log files etc, or create sample clips if they will help.
