Hi There
Have just purchased a Nokia 6610i cell phone. Would like to convert a song to a MIDI file so I can create a new ringtone. Can somebody PLEASE point me in the direction of how to do this ?
Mods ... apologies if post is in incorrect forum. Desperation leads to desperate acts.

1. Get a MIDI editor
then
2a. Carefully listen to song
2b. Write down notes
2c. repeat until done
There's no way in hell to somehow automatically convert music into MIDI. If there were, someone would have gotten a Nobel prize for it already... :D
(A good comparison I read on the net was "trying to extract notes from mixed down audio is like trying to make a real live cow out of a can of stew"...)
np: Giardini Di Mirņ - Alluvione (Giardini Di Mirņ)

the only way to get reasonable results :)

i gave up on converting songs to the particular kind of amr my 6020 takes, so i just EQ'd, and played through my headphones into the phone with voice-recorder turned on.
on a speaker that crappy, who's going to notice :)
(it was just the chorus from "flashdance - what a feeling"... fruity, i know).

There is no way you can convert mp3 or wav to midi. even with some software exist, the result is really bad.
While mp3 or wav file is the actual recorded voice, midi file is instructions to the sound card how to play notes (like "play the note C for 2.5 seconds 3rd octave)
