GMC on x264

it's not part of the specs. Considering how little GMC brought to the table in MPEG-4 v2, that's not surprising, really.

afaik avc uses some other technologies which can indirectly reproduce the effect gmc had in asp.

he's refering to MPEG4 ASP which is arguably the second stage of the mpeg-4 standard.Nono, it's second PART of mpeg-4 standard. First part is mp4 container ("systems"), second is video ("video coding"), third is audio ("advanced audio coding", AAC), .... tenth is "advanced video coding", AVC).

Nothing comes to my mind, no - although with AVC's multi-reference coding, GMC *could* possibly be somehow useful. A bit. Perhaps. Maybe.

GMC adds more complexity to an already complex to decode stream. Also the GMC does not offer big advantages, expecially considering the AVC b-frames efficiency.
