WinDVD 6+7 crash.. help!

Hi!

I can't start WinDVD without an immediate BSOD, the error code is 0x0000008E.

All this stuff started when MPC and Winamp both crashed with a BSOD, when I was seeking within a media file (error code 0x0000007F).

I downloaded a tool named DirectShow Filter Manager and clicked on "Restore standard DirectX codecs". MPC and Winamp didn't crash anymore, but I don't know if (and how) that action affected WinDVD & Creative DVD Audio Player. Both WinDVD 6 and 7 are affected.

I've updated all drivers including the BIOS. No luck.

After hours of testing I removed the Audigy 2 drivers and WinDVD started without any problem! I deleted every small bit of Creative software from my PC and reinstalled from scratch. Same problem again. The sound card itself runs fine, no problems with MP3s or games etc. My Hauppauge TV card behaves in the same manner: Windows crashes (sooner or later) while watching TV with exactly the same error code.

Afaik, WinDVD uses the Creative DVD Audio plugin and Hauppauge TV uses WinDVD's filters for A/V. This leads me to the conclusion that something must be wrong with my sound card respectively its drivers. I can't even reinstall the DVD Audio Plugin because it crashes with that damn BSOD immediately after starting setup.exe. Btw, WinDVD crashes even without that plugin, as I found out earlier.

I know, all this stuff sounds very weird and is confusing... Hope you guys can help me! :(

I have a similar problem with Audigy 2 drivers. I get BSOD when I try to install WinDVD and Creative's Mediasource DVD-Audio player crashes computer too. I can't tell exactly when this problem started, but it was this year.

Seems that ctdvda2k.sys causes the problem. Still looking for a solution...

I've got exactly the same problem with WinDVD 5. It started about one week ago.
The thing is that it was perfectly working, and now it won't.
The only installation I made is Kerio Personnal Firewall. I didn't try to uninstall it, but I've found a workaround : in the control panel, you should see "Creative audio DVD plugin".

Uninstall it, and it must work.

Please tell me if you're using Kerio Personnal Firewall : it could be the solution.
