View Full Version : A terrible question on playback of the file encoded with x264.

My settings:ref frame 16 RDO.Other settings on defaults.
When I played the file I found that It's was stopping for a while(about 1 second) when the picture to another Keyframe.I use ffdshow to decode it.
Why?

Are all your codecs up to date? Did you sue VFW or CLI? Which revision? Which defaults?

Sorry.They are all the lastest version.
I used x264 vfw to encode the file.
I upgraded them yesterday.

i will suggest you using x264 cli+MeGUI. x264vfw in avi has lots of problems when playing back.

use a lower setting for reference frames option (3-5).
16 is an overkill and such a value rises the playback complexity quite a bit without giving noticeable extra quality.

i will suggest you using x264 cli+MeGUI. x264vfw in avi has lots of problems when playing back.

also what are your system specs? what cpu? h264 is pretty cpu hungry, maybe that's the problem?
