I don't really want to rip my DVD's, I just want to be able to watch them on my laptop! They don't play because of 'copyright protection.' They play fine on a standalone DVD player, of course. I was just wondering if there is a patch or program I can download to make the DVDs (Every one that I own) playable on my computer. I looked into DeCSS2, but it was very wierd and I think it's intended for ripping.
Thanks!

That's weird. Don't you have a DVD-ROM drive which will play your region DVDs? My DVDs will play just fine on my laptop using any of the software players like WinDVD, PowerDVD, VLC Media Player etc. This is if I am playing the DVD off my DVD drive. If you don't want the DVD drive to be spinning all the time and want to play the movies off the hard disk, then you can decrypt the DVD to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter/VStrip and then use any of the above mentioned software players for playback.
Where exactly are you facing issues? Any error messages? Screenshots of errors?

Well, it's not the region that's the problem, it's the copyright protection. Here is the 'help' file for the 'error' in windows media player 9:
0xC00D1163: A problem occurred with digital copyright protection
A troubleshooter is available to help you solve this problem. To troubleshoot the problem, see the DVD Troubleshooter in Windows Help.
Notes
To play DVDs, you must have a DVD-ROM drive, and a software or hardware DVD decoder installed on your computer. If you do not have a compatible DVD decoder installed, DVD-related commands, options, and controls do not appear in the Player and you cannot play DVDs. By default, Windows does not include a DVD decoder. For more information about DVD decoders, see Windows Help.
DVD playback is only available on select versions of Windows.
Error ID = 0xC00D1163, Condition ID = 0x00000000
here is a screen shot of me trying to play the DVD:

By the way, I have played DVD's before, I have the decoder. It's the newer releases that do not work.

Windows Media Player? I would try and make my DVDs play with Notepad.exe rather than stooping down to WMP. WMP, M$, copyright protection - it all makes sense.
Download and install VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/mirror.html?mirror=http://downloads.videolan.org/pub/videolan/&file=vlc/0.8.2/win32/vlc-0.8.2-win32.exe) and try to play the DVDs. It should work.

WMP 9 series? I've seen scenarios in which codec packs conflicted with installed software players including PowerDVD, and WinDVD. You might try uninstalling any recent codec packs (providing you've installed any lately) and rebooting to see if WMP 9 will then render your disc/s.
This advice takes for granted that the problem is with WMP 9, and is another example of how important it is to supply as much information as you can, up front. ;)
If you haven't done so already, run a search on "Error ID = 0xC00D1163, Condition ID = 0x00000000", straight out of your error message, and see what pops out at you. And yes, "Welcome to the Forum!"

It's good to hear that you're back up and running, but everyone knows what an "F" and three asterisks stands for. Let's keep it clean.
