Step-by-step guide on how to create your own “Insert Disc 2 now” banners for your split DVDs.
1. Acquire/produce/or convert an image to BMP format if it is not already a BMP. I like to use a screenshot from the first disc of the split movie so as not to give away anything not already viewed by the viewers. To get a screen capture with PowerDVD, pause on the exact frame of the movie you would like to use and hit the little camera icon to take the snapshot. It may ask you to turn off Hardware Acceleration first. You may also want to go into the preferences section to tell it where you want the captures to be saved and what format you want them saved as.
2. Open the BMP in Photoshop or other imaging software and add text such as “Please insert Disc B now”. I like to use a font that compliments the movie.
3. Make sure to change the photo size (if necessary) to 720 pixels x 480 pixels before saving the newly modified image. (PowerDVD should have already saved it to that size).
4. Next, Open DVDShrink.
5. Open any DVD that is on the HDD with it.
6. Hit the Re-Author mode tab and drag a small-sized title from the right side to the DVD structure area on left side.
7. Right click on the title on the left side and hit “Set Start/End Frames…”
8. Drag the “End Frame” slider all the way to the left. Both preview boxes should be completely black. If not, cancel, delete the title on the left DVD structure area, and try dragging a different title, then repeat. If both preview boxes are completely black, hit OK.
9. Now click on the “Compression settings” tab on the right side.
10. Click the Video drop-down menu and select “Still Image” (not Still Picture).
11. Hit the Browse button and find the BMP that you made earlier and click on it.
12. On the title in the DVD Structure area on the left, right-click and hit Paste.
13. Click on the Backup button on the top and choose a place on the HDD to save the new little DVD of your BMP.
14. Now to add the clip to the end of the portion of the movie that is on Disc A…
15. Open the split movie that you want the insert to go with PGCEdit. Find the main movie title. It will most likely be the VTST on the left-hand side that has the longest playing time. You can preview the different titles if you can’t tell which one is the main movie.
16. When you have found the file where you want the image to go, click on the “Macros” tab at the top and choose “Import Title’s Closing clip”.
17. Choose how many seconds you want your banner to be displayed and what you want it to do when it finishes playing. I usually choose to have it go back to the main menu. Now hit “Continue”.
18. Now browse to the location of your little DVD of the BMP that you made with DVDShrink and double click the IFO that it made.
19. The next window should ask you if you want to Copy the VOB, so click “Copy VOB.”
20. Next, click on the Save DVD button.
21. You are done!!! Make sure you test your work before you burn.
