I tried capping something from vhs the other day with my wintv-pvr150(hareware encoder), I tried quality settings at vcd, svcd and mpg at 2mb/s and I could see squares in the caps, the only way for the the file to look the same as the original was to cap it at mpg 12mb/s but thats huge, 1min=100mb... any ideas. Oh and I'm using the wintv2000 settings so maybe I could compress the 12mb/s file using an other program ? I want it to be vcd/dvd tho.

well my suggestion would be to capture to AVI first, using Huffyuv
http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley.edu/benrg/huffyuv.html

and then encode to mpeg2 using other software, if you have it :)

then you can do 2 pass VBR at a lower bitrate and this should reduce the size of your mpeg2 file, but keep the quality high.

if im going to capture fulle res PAL tv, then i usually go for 10mbs mpeg2 and then convert to xvid for local playback and stand alone player playback :)
