I am a newbie to this site and need some help. I have some mpegs that I would like to convert to DVD so I can watch them on my television. I was wondering how I convert them and what program is the best for it? Also, is there any freeware or shareware that would do this for me. If there is anyone that can help it would be greatly appreciated. I already have Decryptor and Shrink if they help. :thanks:

Sorry to break this to you but "Mr/Ms Newbie" needs to familiarise him/herself with the forum rules and do some reading up before posting ;)

My bad I guess. I do not see where I am wrong. Next time don't try to be so cocky Mr/Ms SeeMoreDigital.

Now who is being cocky? Just because you post in the Newbies section doesn't mean that you are excused from the rules of the forum. You already broke 1, 1a, 9 & 12 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm). Good luck in getting help with this attitude.

You broke rule 9 & 12 maybe more with that last post.

SeeMoreDigital is a respected Senior member ;) of the community who has helped many others here at doom9 and IMO was just trying to give you a heads up about the rules.

IMHO You can Kess any help goodbye  until you make amends to SeeMoreDigital.

Respect the Rules.

Nobody likes rude behavior.

Regards,:)

EDIT: unskinnyboy beat me to it. ;)

Hey I am sorry about who I offended. I still do not see where I broke a rule except for maybe not putting what I exactly wanted in the thread title but that is about it. I tried to look for a guide here on how to do what I was asking and failed to find it if it is here on this site. Second, I may have seemed cocky to you nut instead of SeeMOreDigital making a general statement that in my opinion seemed a bit rude, try to make me see it in a better way then calling me Mr/Ms Newbie instead of the user name that is requested of me. Not to mention maybe try to explain to me where I was wrong. So my apologies to him or her but I deserve as much respect as anyone else around here as I am trying to accomplish some of the same things as some of you. Sorry for the long read and if you really feel the need to not help me so be it.

90% of everyone who comes in here wants help, but how would it be if every thread title looks like "Please help!!", "Urgent issue, HELP!!", "Newbie needs help", "Newbie wants to learn" etc? It is totally useless - for you and for us. Answering such a thread is a wasted effort because no other newbie can look at the title of this thread and make out anything useful and he will end up opening another one for himself. Also you haven't read the forum rules - which is inexcusable. The 'Forum Rules' link is pasted right on the forehead of the site and it is there for a reason. And about calling you a newbie, you called yourself a newbie, right? And you posted in the 'Newbies' forum, right? So what does that make you? Don't feel offended - as long as one accepts that he is a newbie at something, he'd be better off in trying to learn it. Everyone started here as newbies, and no one here is ashamed of it. I am also a newbie at many things. Also when you disrespect senior members, it pisses off everyone.

I do not think you even searched the site properly, but however search for 'TMPGEnc' and also check here (http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/convert/vcdtodvd/vcdtodvd.htm) and here (http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/authorburn/tda/tda.htm). You only need to read about the TMPGEnc part where it takes MPEG-1 as input and outputs MPEG-2 (DVD data).

hi kess75 and welcome to the forum!

sorry to see you get such a rough introduction but unfortunately the irony is, using thread titles such as "newbie needs help" wont actually get you much help :p

a good place for everybody to start is the DVD Basics (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvd-basics.htm) section of doom9, in particular, What's on a DVD? (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvd-structure.htm) and the Video Basics (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/video-basics.htm) section.

in addition, you will need to supply us with a bit more information.
what are the properties of the files you have? .vob? .mpg? .mpv? etc etc
plus what type of files? mpeg 1, mpeg 2, mpeg 4?

the more you tell us, the more help we can provide.

as also suggested (although perhaps a little more tactifully, next time guys - after all, this is the newbie forum), the search tool is a valuable asset. and as with all things related to this forum, the more information you give in the search, the better your chances of success.
for example, simply typing "mpeg dvd" will yield these results : search results (http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?searchid=145333) which may not be very useful, however changing this to "mpeg2 dvd author" will yield far better results: search results take 2 (http://forum.doom9.org/search.php?searchid=145334)

have a read, have a search, and if you still have issues, please post back, so we can help you with your goal.

good luck and happy learning
