Hi people.
I was pointed in the direction of this site by a friend of mine as I need some help with DVD copying.

As the title says I am a complete technophobe so all this info on this site has either gone completely over my head or I have read so much I have confused myself.

What I would like is to know an idiots guide to DVD copying.

I have tried to use DVDdecrypter to decrypt the DVD.

I think shrink with DVD shrink that automaticaly burns with my Nero package. Now I seem to be having a problem with them on playback. After between 40 & 70 mins into the film it stops and then has to be ejected as you cannot do anything else.

My pal advised me to use PGCedit to place 32bit sections (what am I talking about???) but this has totally confused me.
Can you guys & girls help me out.

Also can you advise me of a very very simple way to take still images from a DVD

Take a look at the link below, there is an excellent guide for DVD Shrink there. It goes step by step, let us know how it goes. :)

Don't "hi-jack" a separate thread for answers, not only is it against Forum Rules, it's just plain rude.

jaylandon--One of the biggest causes of this kind of problem is incompatible media. Check these databases for media that is compatible with both your burner, and standalone. You didn't state whether the playback problem is with your PC's software player, or a standalone hardware player.

Player/Media compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers)
Burner/Media compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters)

Extract stills? Take a look in your software player's help files, you'll most probably find something under "capture", or "stills", maybe "export". All of the software players I've used support the export of still images, usually in .bmp form, but you can convert from there once you've captured the frames you desire.

Thanks niann.
That's a great guide indeed. Thing is this is what I have been basically doing anyway.
I have just started to try another.

Let's hope it works

Ok Guys & Girls Me Again

I have burnt a couple off since last posting.

One of them "The Toolbox Murders" has worked fine.

I have done another 3 and they have all burnt off ok with no errors the data has been verified and has come back OK

I decrypted with DVDDecrypter. Then opened the files in DVDshrink and burnt them through that which incorporates my Nero. I didn't need to shrink the other as they were reasonably old movies "Breakdance & Beat Street" and thewere only 3.7GB so no need to shrink.
Once again after about an hours play they stick skip and the return to the beginning.

Could this be my player ???

Did you check on the quality/comatibility of your media?

One quick check is to make sure that the ISO that Shrink produces is sound before you send it to the burner. If you run into problems viewing your IFO, download Daemon Tools and "mount" your ISO in this "virtual" drive, then preview in your software player. If you've a good file, this will narrow the problem down to your burner or player.

Does the disc hang at the same place in your software and hardware players?

I still think you're using dodgy media, do some checking and let us know.

Seems as if there's very little information available on this particular model.

Compatibility is the ability of your burner or player to "see" a particular brand of disc. Unfortunately, not all brands of media will work in all burners/player. You might have gotten ahold of a bad batch with which one disc will work, and the next won't. This is the worst case scenario, because you don't know where to point the finger.

You didn't mention if you've tested Shrink's ISO's. If the ISO is good, and it probably is, then you've a media problem. Try borrowing media from friends, or purchasing other brands in small lots until you find a brand that performs well. When you find the right media, catch it on sale and stock up.

I would not suggest buying single re-writeable discs for testing purposes, go with -R's or +R's so you're testing the real deal. RW'able media is notorious for compatiblilty issues.

Verify your ISO's, find some different media, and check back.
