Sony Divx Player, Xvid movies & Fuse problem

Hi everyone,

I have Sony Divx Player NS52P. It can play divx 3.11,4, and 5 movies, but it can't play Xvid movies unless you use fourCC to change from xvid/xvid to divx/DX50. Anyhow I can mux xsub subtitles extracted using Srt2bmp and bmptoxsub easily with divx avi's, but when I try to do it with the modified Xvid avi's it gives me an error :

Error opening AVI File >filename< for reading.
Processing beginning chunks.

and I receive the windows box that says :

fuse.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.


So does that mean I can't watch any Xvid movies with xsubs on my divx player!!

Does anyone have a solution to this problem besides reencoding (it will degrade the quality).

I've tried to load the Xvid file in VirtualdubMod and used directstream copy and save it again and tried with new file, but it gave me the same error.

Any helpfull feed back would be appreciated.

have you got the latest fuse release? i only use xsub with divx but i read somewhere in the forums that the latest fuse release "relaxed" the video input setting allowing xvid to be used.

I've got my version from divxlabs site. This is it (Fuse02182005). I don't think it is the latest one. Could you please indicate to me where to find the latest one?

can you tell me if your xvid movie has gmc or qpel?

load the filte into gSPOT and post a screenshot if you can

if it has gmc or qpel you will have to reencode avi again in order to eliminate tthem

or use avi.net if your source was a dvd

i just backed up a small trailer into xvid using avi.net and muxed in the xsubs with srt2bmp and it plays fine on standalone and pc.

i bet its Gmc or Qpel that its preventing fuse from working

It seems to be impossible to know if fuse 02182005 is the last version or to find a page where you can download the fuse.exe file. I've been searching for hours.

I have the same problem as tomy601k. I can't mux an xvid with srt2bmp and that version of fuse.
My Xvid file doesn't have gmc or qpel. It does has packed bitstream. I'll get rid of it and make a new try to see if that´s the problem.

Anyway I would appreciate if someone could write a link to fuse.exe download.

I have, along with other users, searched for this XViD problem. This problem has nothing to do with the type of audio (ac3 etc) or compression options (QPEL etc) the avi has. It is something else. The variaty of XViD compressed videos work with fuse.

I have found though that opening problem avis with MPEG4 Modifier, you'll see that in "User Data" there is nothing in it, as it should be something like "XviD0037". I tried adding this with MPEG Modifier but no hope. Using VirtualDub/Mod/Nandub gives the same error. It must be something used in the encoding process, don't know what - still trying to figure this out.

As for fuse, there isn't a newer version from the one mgh is giving (18-Feb-2005). DivXLabs told they will release a new version in september, still nothing on their site.

I solved the issue in my case. It seems something silly, actually.

I had the problem when I tried to mux the xvid and the audio and the the xsub, the three files separately. The process didn't work. But If I mux before the xvid with the audio and then use fuse.exe only to add the xsub there's no problem at all. I get the muxed divx file. Weird.
