View Full Version : Bastardized usage of DVD-RB nukes audio - why? (p.s. - I got it back tho...)

Ran an experiment with DVD-RB v1.00RC2. Wanted to see if I could get it to compress extras only on a 2 VTS set. V01 = main movie. V02 = extras. Here's what I did.

1) Nuked V01 with PgcEdit.
2) Set TargetSectors = 129420. Wanted 256MB final size (which included 75MB of menus). So, from the default TargetSectors setting of 2236400 (giving 4.32GB), I did:

256/1024 * 1/4.32 * 2236400 = 129420 (rounded, nearest 10)

3) Ran DVD-RB. It produced 256MB output right on the dot.
4) Loaded output into PowerDVD, played extras, no audio.
5) Loaded output into DVD Shrink, V02 audio streams are gone.

I was wondering if anyone might know why my audio streams were nuked?

Ok, so I got the audio back. Here's what I did:

1) Ran DVD-RB against original DVD with some arbitrary TargetSectors setting (2276500, to be exact).
2) Output from this run plays fine, all audio is fine.
3) Took my V02 output from bastardized run above and copied it into this run's D2VAVS directory.
4) Reran Rebuild stage for this run.
5) Output is built, with my V02 output from bastardized run, and audio is fine. V02 output is +17MB larger than bastardized run, which equals the original missing audio size (and verified in DVD Shrink, V02 audio = 17MB).

So, I got the audio back, in a roundabout kind of way, and I am trying to figure out what this means - i.e. why the difference in behavior when building V02 output from these two runs?

Appreciate any input - thanks...

what did you actually do, when you nuked v01 with pgcedit?
are you sure that the 'dvd' had audio in v02 after that?

on the other hand, i guess you know, what dvdrb things about preprocessed sources...
but 2b honest, i'd like to understand also, why that didn't work ;-)

In PgcEdit, used "Blank out all Title PGCs in DVD". Merged V01 output from that operation and V02, VIDEO_TS.* from original DVD into a directory for DVD-RB to source.

Yeah, I've seen the warnings about preprocessing too, but this is too weird...

Just did this again, changing TargetSectors to 119310 to account for the audio not being factored in. Same thing, no audio in V02 output, but when I copy the D2VAVS V02 output into the run that worked and redo the rebuild, I get the audio back. And it's sized right where I want this time.

So, what's going on?
