Can QT play Nero created files?
movie + 5.1, and maybe also support for subtitling?
right now it doesnt seem to work in the near future, just wonder if QT eventually may support mp4 containter in a degree as nero does.

okay, think this is more applicable for the players section. if one of the mods can move this. sowwy :)

first of all are you talking about avc or asp video? as you posted in the avc forum i assume avc

qt7 can play avc main profile in .mp4, which is what nero creates too
qt7 does not support asp, but only simple profile video

i am not sure of the 5.1 aac status of qt7, but afaik it can encode 5.1 aac already (only to .mov afaik)
note that qt7 doesnt support sbr and will therefore play he-aac streams with low quality

If you mean QT7 for WinXP, then it would seem... "not yet" for 6Ch AAC-LC (or HE) audio :eek: And most probably... "never" for Nero's VobSub subtitling implementation!

Here's what QT7 for WinXP displays... As you can see it does not correctly list 6Ch AAC audio at all: -

That said, as I run Windows XP, I can only comment about this particular O/S. Maybe Mac users are having more luck with Recode2 encodes containing 6Ch AAC audio....

Can any of you guys comment... And do you require a sample encode?

as far i understand:
- QT plays Nero created AVC video
- so far no 5.1 or multichannel sound from QT, but if it does, it should play Nero 5.1 files correctly isnt?
- QT does not support subtitling, but it will just ignore it?

On the other-hand, x264 in .MP4 (or .MOV) plays perfectly without B-frames. But does stutter with one ore more B-frames.

- so far no 5.1 or multichannel sound from QT, but if it does, it should play Nero 5.1 files correctly isnt?Given that QT7 can play RAW 6Ch AAC-LC streams and mux them to .MOV, one would think it should be able to play 6Ch AAC-LC in .MP4 too... but sadly it can't :(

thx for the reply and most of all the confirmation where MP4 stands so far.
Hope they fix this before releasing the final release of QT 7.
Idd i also wonder if Mac users have the same problems. ...

qt6 can play ttxt subtitles, but only when being placed in .3gp, not when being in .mp4 :rolleyes:
but maybe that changed in qt7 already

qt definitely doesnt support vobsubs-in-mp4

The text is only visible in QT7 when the file extension is changed to .3GP or when re-muxed into .MOV.

Yeah...

I wouldnt mind... but VLC player can identify the text in .MP4, .3GP and .MOV... but can't display it :scared:
