XviD 1.1 beta 2 and DXN profiles

I'm looking for the exact specs of the DXN HT PAL/NTSC profiles since when I installed this version and wanted to use it with GordianKnot 0.35 the values seemed changed. At first it looked like only 1 max. consecutive B-frames were allowed but later it seemed to have changed to 2 max. consecutive B-frames. Resetting to default profiles (XviD) and deleting the registry values (Gknot) did not bring it back to 1.

But I did a search on Doom9 and Google and I didn't find the *exact* specs of the DXN profiles (one person says 2 b-frames are OK and the other says only 1 is OK) so if anyone can provide these specs that would be much appreciated, so I can adjust it back manually. I have reverted back to 1.0.3 meanwhile and will try using 1.1 beta 2 when I have more certainty about this.

The last question would be: is it (compatibily wise to playback in standalone players) safe to use Trellis quantization with the DXN profiles in 1.1 beta 2?

I can point you to dli's post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=690695#post690695) not too long ago, wich in my view suggests that Xvid DXN profiles that allow for B-frames will not lay any restrictions on the number of consecutive b-frames.

On trellis-quantization, I believe (but I am not sure of anything) that it works only on the encoder side, influencing a decision on what quant to assign to certain blocks of the image. That is nothing more then trying to do smart compression, and is not an option that requires support at the decoding side.
In short-yes it is (always) safe, afaik.

The DXN profiles only allow 1 consecutive B-frame. Based on a quick glance at the source code, XviD appears to enforce that. Are you claiming that you selected a DXN profile in XviD and it generated more than 1 consecutive B-frame? How are you determining that?

LightningFire is correct. Trellis quantization is purely an encoder-side feature. It requires no special decoder support. It is compatible with any player.

Though I didn't find the exact technical specs for DivX profiles on DivX the site in order to be fully "DivX Certified" only "Adaptive Single Consecutive" B-frames are allowed. Which means 1 consecutive B-frame only (I guess).

I will try XviD 1.1 beta 2 on my next encodings ;)
