DVDFabDecrypter?? [Archive]

I know that DVDDecrypter has stopped development. I see there is a new progrfam available, DVDFabDecrypter.

What is DVDFabDecrypter like? Any advantage to using it over the last version of DVDDecrypter? Any disadvantage?

There is also a (official?) forum (http://forum.digital-digest.com/forumdisplay.php?f=82) at Digital Video in which I believe that the author, fentao, also resides as a moderator (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=52768#) for it. Please peruse the stickies there. ;)

You can use DVDd for 99% of the DVDs if one dont work use DVDFab decrypter or Magic DVD Ripper.

Hey MikeK, 2COOL gave the guy 2 links that would give him a lot of info. and as a matter of fact, there is a very informative thread that is 18 threads below this one..."DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.2.2 with Command Line Switches".

So, 2COOL gave Yo a gentle push in the direction of where more info. was
there is nothing wrong with that IMHO.

The fishing quote is very much on topic and in the spirit of this forum. Management encourages people to read up and try on their own, then come here if they have questions. We'll try to teach you how to fish then. DVDFab Decrypter is also one of the most easy to use rippers, and as it usually goes, easy to use and many options conflict and that's very much true here. I doubt you'll ever see the same amount of functionality in DVDFab Decrypter.. perhaps in the commercial version but certainly not in the free one - the author wants to make some money after all. If you like DVD Decrypter and want to keep on using it on discs with newer Arccos versions, simply install DVD43 (free), AnyDVD (commercial) or DVD Region+CSS free (also commercial, by the author of DVDFab Decrypter).. then those layers will take care of decryption and DVD Decrypter will do the rest that other rippers cannot. Even when DVD Decrypter was alive and kicking, I had AnyDVD installed and it's a program I don't regret spending money for even though there are free alternatives.

If all you care for is a simple program to get your VOBs off a DVD without bells and whistles (no IFO parsing, chapter files, keyframe files, etc etc etc), and need to be able to handle all discs, even those that are a perversion of the DVD specs (Arccos), DVDFab Decrypter is exactly the tool for you. And if you like DVD Decrypter and like to keep on using it the way you used to, if you encounter a disc that causes problems, I listed three alternatives above.

From this moment on I'll consider this post the reference to such questions.. so when people say use the search, limit your search to this forum and put doom9 as the author.

Sorry to but in on the thread, do you use ANyDVD on your pc to decrypt on-the-fly and then use DVD Decrypter to rip you DVDs in conjunction with AnyDVD?

If so then I may have to purchase AnyDVD also. :D

Agree 100% .... I would like to see the ability to select files, similar to DVDD, but that will probably not happen.

FYI:
I've had great success with being able to ripp very marred discs with DVD Fab 2.9.1 (later versions of DVDF fail, as well as DVDD).

Yes, you can use AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter doing the actual ripping and AnyDVD doing the job of removing any encryption (CSS or Arcoss)

This was provided by the people that wrote AnyDVD as there was so many requests asking the same thing, it really is simply to do :

Make sure you have AnyDVD installed, and make sure you HAVE reset your system otherwise AnyDVD will NOT run correctly, you MUST reset your system after installing AnyDVD, there is no way around this option as I myself hate having to reset just because some new software is installed

Run DVD Decrypter

Goto Tools/Settings/General and uncheck the 'Check for Structure Protection' option, this turns of DVD Decrypters own removal methods, you won't be using it anymore

Goto I/O tab in settings and select 'ElbyCDIO - Elaborate Bytes'

Thats it

When a new DVD or audio CD protection is released, just update your version of AnyDVD and you have the latest removal method available

it seems that only the decrypting capabilities of decrypter will, one day, be dead; not its ripping ones. Decrypter is NOT dead then.

DVDD will never die for some !

It works on everything now published/released to date. It shall go further into the future by working in conjunction with with ADVD as steptoe mentioned.

I have only come across one title that DVD Decrypter couldnt handle(Closer R2) and there are PSL's availble for it. And as elizerrojas says it's only the ripping side that may become obsolete, DVDD still has one of , if not the best burn engines around.

Have no problems with DVDD at all IE Arccos on R2.
It will be interesting when HDVD and or BlueRay is launched.

This is actually somewhat funny... When development of DVDshrink died we were told to use DVD decrypter to rip (as that was still being developed and Shrinks protectionremoval would soon be outdated). Now that development of DVD Decrypter has died we need another tool to keep it alive. What if that third tool would somewhen die? Then we´re stuck with a string of four programs to transcode one lousy DVD... :p

DVD Decrypter will live for a long time yet. It eats up every ARccOS title I have seen in R4, including Closer.

However, I think Macrovison/MPAA is going to have a harder time going after DVDFab Decrypter - since AFAIK, the author is located in PRC, not the UK. Fengtao might not be so easy to get to :)

Hi!

1) You're misinterpreting the use of DVDFab Decrypter. It is used INSTEAD OF, and not in addition to DVD Decrypter.

2) If you're concerned about the "number of tools", you can purchase a "one click solution" program, such as DVD95Copy, that continues to rip, compress and burn ALL DVDs

1) I was refering to AnyDVD and such...

2) I have no objection to huge amount of tools, I actually prefer to have a program for every thing I do, so I have complete control.

Hey guys thanks for all the great info! Just so I am clear when using DVDD and AnyDvD in conjunction, w/DVDD set up as stated on page 1. AnyDVD will remove the protection out of the ISO file that DVDD creates? Or just simulates it on the computer AnyDVD is installed on? Like DVD Region Killer. Thanks.

Still no log, or at least inform you in some way, on possible read errors...
