Buffer Underflow error in Rebuild stage

Hi Guys,

I was trying to backup Hitch (PAL Region 2 UK version) and I ripped it to my HDD using DVDFab Decrypter and then hit the prepare phase in DVD-RB.

I was using the last free version DVD-RB 0.93. The reason being because I like to use RB-Opt 0.17 beta, to tweak the files and I use OPV for main movie and VBR for the extras.

Now Hitch has a lot of it about 16 VTS in all.

I RB-Opt I set the following values in the CCE setting:

DC Precision:8, Gop Length: 15, Min Bitrate: 64, Max Bitrate: 4500 (for extras) 5500 (for main movie), Quantization Matrix: KVCD.

I set this up for all VTS, all VBR and the main movie VTS 8 OPV prediction.

This is how I have always used DVD-RB in the past and have never had this problem. I am doing another test with another movies and see what happens.

Oh btw both DVD-RB & DGIndex show up the movie and several of the VOBs including the main movie VTS are Interlaced. I don't know if this helps.

Update:

I am currently running another backup, this time on 'Red Planet'

Now I know this already fits onto a DVD5 and doesn't need compression but it only has two VTS 1 for the movie and 2 for the trailer.

I set up the main movie VTS for OPV prediction and just manually set it to a Q factor of 1. and left the other VTS for VBR via RB-Opt. I then entered the same parameters in the CCE settings in RB-Opt.

I am half way through the conversion and already I notice DVD-RB behaving correctly.

The problem I noticed while doing Hitch was that although I set the main movie VTS 8 for OPV prediction with RB-Opt for some reason in DVD-RB in was still doing 2-pass encoding. However with Red Planet it is behaving correctly just 1-pass for the movie.

Again both tests where done with the Free Version of DVD-RB 0.93.

However I ran another test with DVD-RB Pro RC2 and entered the one-click mode. I selected the KVCD matrix for the 'Advanced (Expert) Options' for all the various sub menu matrix settings.

I chose 'Steal 25% from extras settings. Used CCE as always for my encodings and hit the 'Backup' Button.

All went well until again at the Rebuid stage I got the same buffer underun error.

The above filters I have always used and have never failed me before.

Maybe Hitch is a hard one to backup, I just don't know. In the end I had to use DVDShrink to back it up.

Has any1 else encountered these problems?

Just to let you all know I have succesfully completed the backup of Red Planet with no errors whatsoever. The rebuild went fine and all came out well.

I just can't understand why Hitch is given me problems and buffer underruns.

Does Rebuilder Free 0.93 produce a logfile that I can post? Also does the Pro v1.00 RC2 produce a logfile? If they do where do they output it to as I can't find a logfile in the destination directory.

If you have somethin like (ex.) D:\DVD-RB\Work\D2VAVS\ the log file should be on the D:\DVD-RB\Work\rebuilder.log

Hi Rockas thank you for your reply, I only have Rebuilder.inf and .ecl files in my D2VAVS folder, the problem could be that File menu the 'Status Logging On' option was unticked.

I take it this should have been on in order to work?

Well it is better to have it selected but anyway... the log file won't be on your D2VAVS folder...
If you have something like
WORK\D2VAVS

the log file will be on the folder called "WORK", got it?

Hi Zyphon,

it's never fun to run into problems with a backup. But I would suggest that you try a clean run without the long list of tweaks you use. Just try a plain 2 pass VBR with all settings at default. Just to make sure something funny doesn't happen along the way on that particular project :)

Hitch is a Sony ARccOS protected disk. Still, you ripped it to your harddrive O.K.
There were quite a few problems, dummy sector insertion, etc., with the R2 version of Hitch but those were taken care of, I believe, in DVDFab Decrypterv.2.9.2.2 or v2.9.3.0.

Sorry for the late reply, but after your suggestion I tried again.

This time I used the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.3.2 and DVD-RB Pro 1.00 RC 5 and I still get this error:

It is fustrating as I don't like to let this one beat me but it appears that it has.

I have RARed all my DVD-RB files such as Rebuilder.ini, Rebuilder.ecl and so on for JDobbs to test >here< (http://rapidshare.de/files/4101259/Hitch_Error.rar.html) .

I am puzzled why I can't back this one up it is the only one to date that I can't.

Thanks Jerry your suggestion worked perfectly. :D

I thought it may have been a custom matrix problem but I did a batch encode with 1 click mode and save 25% on extras, I used two different Matrices in the tests and they both worked perfectly and backup up o.k.

Maybe DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.3.2 could not decrypt it properly, I wonder if the update 2.9.3.5 can, I shall have to do some tests with it. :D
