View Full Version : Best way to make a 1:1 bit perfect DVD?

I remember posting in the DVD Decrpyter forums before it was brought down and Lightning UK said the ISO ripped by DVD Decrpyter is bit perfect and he doesn't see any reasons why it's not? Since the program is dead, I'm hearing ppl saying that I can still use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD, but just use AnyDVD to decrpyt the CSS? What are the settings that I should enable or disable to ensure that I get the best possible 1:1 rip? Thanks.

please... please do not use "Best" ... is forbidden ;)

following your example you must disable "Check for structure protection" in DVDD and in I/O panel check ElByCDIO; in anydvd check enable near anything...

there is a thread fullfilling this method :search:

Technically to be 1:1 bit perfect, wouldn't the copy have to contain the CSS ?

If you are going to rip a DVD with DVD Decrypter and then burn it on dual layer media - use the .mds file (the layerbreak is in that file) when you do the burning.

My program is still alive when I run it. :)

If you're finding some of your DVD's can no longer be ripped using DVD Decrypter, have you considered using DVDFAB Decrypter?

hi seemoredigital,

Does this also apply for DVD-ROM dvd's?

i mean does the program support PTP burning and layersplitting?

cyah,

DVDFAB Decrypter does not give you much in the way of "user settings". In fact, here they all are: -

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8160/dvdfabdecryptersettings6qp.png

But for those DVD's that DVD Decrypter can't rip, makes DVDFAB Decrypter a very useful tool...

I guess there's also the possibility of converting rips with DVDFAB Decrypter into ISO files (using Image Tool Classic), mounting them (using DAEMON Tools) and ripping/checking/comparing them with DVD Decrypter ;)

There is a new 'user setting' in ver 2.9.3.0 - check for new updates automatic. So there is one more setting to deal with. :)

With so much choice, it's so easy to become confused :scared:

will DVD-Decripter write DVD-R DL disks with layer breaks in tactAlot of research and testing has been discussed here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=95250) amongst very knowledge and technical users in regards to coming up with a PgcEdit function to use DVD Decrypter for burning DLs.

Thus, this guide (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/blutach/dl_burning_with_pgcedit.htm) was born from the knowledge it gave.

I just dont wanna make a £4 coasterWhen you rip your DVD in ISO mode there will also be created a .mds file. Use that file for the burning - the layerbreak is in that one.

Alright I guess I will become more specific now. Basically I just want to rip like what I was ripping with DVD Decrpyter now. What are the settings in AnyDVD that I should leave enable or disable so that the rips will be the same as the rips done by DVD Decrypter before it was forced to shut-down?

Thanks for they reply.

I have one question though.

I know DVD-Decrypter writes DVD+R DL disks. Does it also write DVD-R DL disks bearining in mind that DVD-R DL's are written differently to DVD+R DL's

I know the thread I gave is kinda long-winded but somewhere in there, there has been important discussions and findings on burning DVD-Rs. Lots of technical stuff.

Yes.

I have used DVDDecrypter for 26 successful backups onto DVD-R dual layer blank discs. I used "ISO READ R" to rip; then, I used "ISO WRITE W" to burn, selecting the .MDS file. All were burned at 2.4X, using Verbatim and Ritek DVD-R dual layer discs, and the default settings on the last version of DVDDecrypter.

Cool

Where did you get the ritek DVD-R DL disks from? I didnt think they were shiping them yet. Do they have better compatability then the Verbatims?

Oops... my mistake. These were, of course, the DVD+R.

Actually, about six months ago, the only DVD+R dual layer discs that most places seemed to be carrying were the Verbatim, the Memorex, and the Ridata (Ritek) ones. I remember when I bought, perhaps back in December or January, that these three brands seemed to be the only discs that were out there. I bought mine from Supermediastore, at the time. At the time, they were also listed Meritline's web site, and also at Rima. None of these dealers have them listed anymore, though, and I also checked five other E-Tailers, with no luck.

In fact, I cannot find anyone carrying the Ritek DVD+R dual layers. They (Ritek) may have stopped making them, and decided to only manufacturer the newer +R dual layer blanks.

I am looking at a five-pack that I still have as I type this. They are 2.4X, and are branded as "Ridata."

However, all of this is irrelevent, since I would now advise anyone that Verbatim is the SAFER choice, for the +R dual layer discs. Lots of people had problems over on the DVDecrypter forum when they tried using anything other than the Verbatims (for the DVD+R dua layer format). It just so happens that I learned this after I had bought quite a few.

BSpielbauer,

Just wondered what standalone you were playing your successful back ups on. My wharfedale m3 won't seem to read the second layer using exactly the same back up method and same dual layer discs.

Adyf:

I just checked the data base over at the Videohelp.com website, and I looked up your standalone (Wharfedale M3) to see what other users have reported and what the manufacturer’s specs claim.

According to their data base, the following types of discs and formats are supported:

CDR CDRW
DVD-R DVD+RW
VCD SVCD JPG
MP3 WMA

It lists all of the following as “grayed out,” and with a question mark, which means that no one has yet reported that they have successfully been able to play these types of discs:

DVD-RW?
DVD-R DL?
DVD+R?
DVD+R DL?

It also lists the following with a “strikethrough,” which means that it definitely will not play these types of discs:

DIVX
XVID

Here is a direct link, if you want to check out the other details:

You probably know this, but not all standalones will handle the dual layer discs (just as there are still a lot of standalones out there that will not handle DVD+R, DVD-R, for example).

Now, to your question…

Because I have five players to contend with, I do have to try and make sure my burned stuff works in a variety of different players. I tried all of my dual layer burns in this unit, and they all worked:

Panasonic DMR-E55
(Note that this is a recorder, and it will not write to DVD-R dual layers discs, but it plays them fine).

They also were tested in the following units:

Pioneer DV 588A-S
Panasonic RV-60
Samsung 841 (model number may not be 100% correct).
My wife’s DVD player in her mini-van, make and model unknown

Hope something here helps…

EDIT: My apologies for the confusion... my backups were DVD+R discs, and not the "-Rs."

This is the unit I have thoroughly tested all of my burns on (which means I have watched all 26 on my E55, all of the way through, start to finish).

One guess- it is possible there is a firmware difference? (Mine has never been updated, so it is the firmware that was installed on the unit out of the box.)
