I tried to convert the Matrix (Original first Matrix from 1999 I think) using QuEnc 0.61. with DVD2SVCD. The first CD seems OK. Audio starts going out of sync on the second CD and gets worse as the movie goes on. Also there is some video distortion as well as short segments of a few seconds that repeat a couple of times. I tried 1 pass encoding and 2 pass encoding. 2 pass is better but pretty much the same problems occur.

I'm using highest quality. My bitrate settings are:

Between 0 and 60 mins. Use 1 CD size 800
Between 60 and 120 mins. Use 2 CD size 800
Between 120 and 180 mins. Use 3 CD size 800
Between 180 and 240 mins. Use 4 CD size 800
Between 240 and 300 mins. Use 5 CD size 800
Between 300 and 9999 mins. Use 6 CD size 800

Max. 2520 Min 340, Min. AVG (checked) 1220 Max avg. 2520

Anybody successfully converted The Matrix using QuEnc 0.61 ?
and what settings did you use ?

As I'm looking at my settings I think I'm next going to try to more or less
get Quenc to use a CBR of 2520. Maybe use:
Max. 2520 Min 2520, Max avg. 2520

Seems like there is more out of whack than just the encoder.....

I tried using Max. 2520 Min 2520, Max avg. 2520 for the Matrix and it was better, but the sound started going out of sync somewhere in the 2nd of 3 CD's. If anyone had sucess with QuEnc 0.61 as far as converting "the Matrix" to SVCD please tell me your settings. No other movie gave me this kind of trouble. All others I've succeeded with and most quite easily. Thanks.

Might it be a multi-angle DVD(Say with the theatrical release and the directors cut)?

Try enabling DVD ripping and give it another go if you're motivated.

I reckon put the bitrate tab back to somewhere near default too.....

I tried your suggestion and used the default bitrate settings in 1 pass mode. This gave me 3 cd's that were between 2 and 5 seconds movie length difference than what I got when using 2 pass. So I guess practically speaking the bitrate when all was said and done was essentially the same.

Well, that said the outcome was exactly the same. Sound sync good through most of the first CD. As the movie continues the sound gradually gets more and more out of sync. I think about 2 secs off at the end of the movie.

When I did it in 2 pass. My time per cd was:
CD 1: 57:26 (806 MB)
CD 2: 52:09 (806 MB)
CD 3: 29:07 (460 MB)

I don't get at all what's up with the screwy time distribution.

When I did the conversion with all 4 bitrate numbers set at 2520
in an attempt to get a Constant bitrate, I got much more
sensible times per CD:
CD 1: 47:21 (806 MB)
CD 2: 45:09 (806 MB)
CD 3: 44:59 (806 MB)
CD 4: 01:15 (19 MB) (end credits - who cares)

But, although the sound was less out of sync by about half, the movie was
nevertheless still ruined.

The Matrix is the only movie that has given me these problems. I have sucessfully encoded about 90 movies perfectly as far as I can tell.
There has to be some very unique characteristics to the martrix.

I don't know if you have converted the matrix to SVCD, but if someone out there has sucessfully converted the matrix to SVCD using QuEnc 0.61 and DVD2SVCD I would very much appreciate you letting us know the settings you used. Thanks.
