OK, first I think this is the best place for this question. I like to make loops on Dig.8 for playback using camcorder. Recently my source has been VOB's from ripped DVD's, played with Nero, from laptop through S-Video to camcorder. My quality at this point is ok; it depends on the TV I play back on. Better TV's with analog inputs in the front usually work best, but the picture is not DVD quality, maybe just a tad-bit washed out. On older TV's, the picture is bad.
But then, sometimes I want to take the Dig.8 video that I just created, and convert it to an AVI using Ulead Video and my laptop. The AVI I end up with is significantly washed out. What I really don't understand is the same process using some older Hi-8 video (in conversion to avi) has a lot better result. I may be going the long way around in my method of creating the avi; so there may be suggestions on that side, or overall, any help appreciated.
