Hello!
I'm trying to convert the movie Star Wars to VCD with permanent subtitles with DVD2SVCD.
The problem is that the movie is in NTSC, and in order to play on my TV I have to convert it to PAL.
When I add the permanent subtitles they are out of sync from some reason. The final result is trash and I have to do it all the same again.
This only happens when I have to check the option convert NTSC to PAL in any movie.
Can anyone help me in fixing this problem?
Thanks from PT
PS: I use CC Encoder.

Are all the subs out of sync or does it get progreesively worse?
If it gets progressively worse, I guess that when DVD2SVCD speeds up the video framerate from 23.976 (which I'm guessing the original is) to 25.000, it doesn't update the subtitle timecodes.
If this is the case, perhaps the best idea is to rip the subs with SubRip and then use Radlight Subtitle Studio 2 to do a framerate conversion to 25. Resave the subs file and add it to your DVD2SVCD project as an external stream,
EDIT - just noticed it's your first post - welcome to the forum! I don't know hpw experienced you are in the digital AV arena - if the above doesn't make sense I'll happily go through it in more detail

Hi Nick!
Thank you for your warm welcome.
I'm a newbie at this. I use DVD2SVCD in basic level only to convert the movies to VCD with portuguese permanent subtitles.
It depends:
For instance in the movie "Are we there yet" the subs where out of sync right in the beggining, but with Star Wars they become progressively worst, and in the middle of the movie all goes wrong. I don't know if this as anything to do with the codecs or not, but I use Gspot to identify the codecs and it says that all is ok.
The only solution is to convert directly in NTSC, I've done that to try it with Star Wars and hour ago, and it worked, all subs are sync. But with PAL conversion it's impossible...
So..any solution?
Thank you

Other way of doing it is to convert the avi from ntsc to pal using virtualDub. First you have to extract the audio, under audio tab choose full processing mode and under the file tab choose save wav. Now, in the video tab choose direct stream copy and change the frame rate to 25, in audio tab choose no audio. Save your avi. Now you have a pal avi without sound and a "ntsc" wav. With virtualDub you can see the exact duration of your pal avi. Convert your "ntsc" wav file to the pal avi duration with besweet (i use the goldwave audio editor choosing the time warp effect). Now just open your Pal avi with VirtualDub, choose direct stream copy in the video tab and your new "pal" wav file in audio--> wav audio. Save the new avi. You are now the proud owner of a new Pal avi file.

Hi!!
Thanks for the help! But that procedure is without the permanent subtitles right?! How can I do then with permanent subs?
Other question, another movie, another problem. These time the subs where all sync, but the sound was all «speeded up», how to correct the problem?
Thanks!

My "guide" is to be done before the conversion to dvd, vcd or whatever. If you have any problem with it just pm.
