Hello....newbie here.
I've been using DVD Decrypter along with DVD Rebuilder/QuENC and after encoding, the DVD will play for about 15-20 minutes in my Toshiba standalone then I get a lot of pixellation and freeze ups. The DVD plays fine in the PC's DVD on iether Power DVD or Windows Media Player. From what I gather, this is an encoding issue, so what am I doing wrong?
Also, how do I rip a dual layer DVD properly to fit on a DVD+R?
Thanks in advance.
Oh...here are my sys specs:
AMD Athlon 1800+
512MB DDR RAM
40GB HD
NEC ND-2510A DVD Burner

Welcome to the Forum:
You've most likely facing a media compatibility issue. Not all brands of media will work in all standalones, or even burners, for that matter. Use this link and see what you can find out.
Player/media compatibility (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers)
Have you looked at Doom9's DVD Rebuilder Guide (http://doom9.org/mpg/dvdrb.htm)? If not, get it in hand, and if you get stuck, post specifics on your problem and we can help you out a bit better.

Hi-
Yes, I agree that it doesn't really sound like a DVD-RB issue, but more of a media problem, most likely due to your standalone. As a test, you might take the DVDs to a friend's house and check if they pixellate at the same places on a different player. I've read of so many problems with Toshiba players, that I'd almost be willing to bet (almost, but not quite) that a different brand player could play your DVDRs better. Those Toshibas can be very picky about what they'll play well.
Also, I have a 16x burner, but sometimes had similar problems when burning 8x DVDRs at 8x. Slowing the burn speed to 4x solved all my problems. So, it can sometimes help to burn more slowly.
Also, how do I rip a dual layer DVD properly to fit on a DVD+R?
I don't understand. That's what DVD-RB is for. If it were a single layer DVD, you wouldn't need to recompress at all.

OK...used DVD Decrypter...IFOEdit...then DVD Shrink on the one and it worked great. Did a second one and now I get a C++ Runtime Error when I try to open the files with DVD Shrink. If I put a DVD in the tray and open it...no runtime error. Could the problem be owing to "angle or interleaving present"? If so, how do I get rid of that?
Thanks again in advance.

Thanks to all.
I'm getting the hang of this, and the combo of DVD Decrypter-IFOEdit-DVD Shrink is working very well.
hi NYYFan,
although your second question, has no bearing at all on your initial problem (which both ammck55 and manono gave you excellent responses to), i feel it prudent to question your use of ifoedit?
dont get me wrong, ifoedit is an incredibly powerful program which can be used to strip unwanted material from your back-up, however it can be far from user friendly, and can result in all sorts of complications with your end result if you dont know what you are doing.
i have found that both pgcedit and vobblanker are very much user friendly and have a lot of built-in sanity to checks to help you avoid messing up the dvd structure while still achieving your goals. you can read about both of these programs in the ifo/vob editors forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=50)

Thanks for the info, but I found the guide posted on this site makes using IFO Edit a breeze.

OK...problem is back.
Plays FINE the first play, then it pixellates like crazy about 1/2-3/4 of the way through the movie. Plays fine on the PC. Is this a Toshiba issue or a media issue?
Thanks in advance!

What media you are using? Firmware version? (The latest firmware for the 2510A can be found here (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1837)).
Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49635).
Also, see here (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44912).
Post a burning log please - if you're using Ner0, it's located in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log

Removing the labels fixed the problem.
