after running some mutiple tests on the film called armageddon i came to the conclusion as follows,

1 - the out side view is ok, nice and bright, and the chroma is kept fine,
1a -however if there is a scene where there is mutiple shades, for example showing the city building from a far, you will clearly see that the top part is ok, but half way down the screen where the base of the buildings are, you will clearly see that divx gets confused and can not keep the shades of brightness intact and to the original, where Xvid can handal this problem, even recode 2 can handal this ok.

2 - there are parts in the film that show you a screen or TV in the back ground, this plays havoc again on the codec as the screens will nearly always have pixalation in them and can not be resolved, my guess is that the codec is processing the main image only, and diregarding the fact that the other TV image could be different (interlaced, or different FPS) and require a different process, this is only a theory, but does seem to make sense.

3 - the mp3 varible bit rate could be a lot better, if i didn't know any better the mp3 codec there using isn't the best, as the quality is terrible, yet i have seen other mp3 codecs showing very good quallity at the same bit rate, i personally think there not using the codec right, or they need to consider using a better codec as i was shocked to see such low quallity at this bit rate level, ecspecially on parts where there is music and sound and voices at the same time..

i feel until they resolve this chroma brightness problem, nero recode 2 is actually better, as high points must be given when the picture is 1:1 in respect to brightness and chroma, although Xvid is far superior and i doubt DivX has what it takes to compete,
