Please Help, My PC Crashes when trying to capture.

I just bought a "Super TV Tuner" Capture card.

It has the Conexant 878A chipset

Anyway I installed it into my PC (AMD 2100+ , PC2100 256 , RIVA TNT2 Model 64) WinXP recognized the hardware right away and prompt me for the drivers. I used the Winxp drivers that came w/ the capture card.

I also used the capture software that came w/ the card.

My PC totally locks up when trying to use the software. I can't even alt-Ctrl-del or even move my mouse. All I can do is flip the power switch.

I also tried cyberkink's PowerVCR II free trial. It locks up my PC as well.

I'm having a hard time finding any support for this card what so ever so I turned to the experts here at doom9.

Hopefully I've given enough details so that one of you insanely smart doom9 guys can help me.

...I also used the capture software that came w/ the card....Then you might check to see if the "Super TV Tuner" company's website has updated drivers / updated capture software. But your symptom leads me to think you have a hardware problem. You might try removing and reseating the card, if its not fully in the PCI slot you might have symptoms such as you describe, or if the slot is bad, moving it to another slot may solve the problem.

If reseating the card doesn't solve the problem, then I would seek out a different BT878 driver. The 878 is widely used, and a different driver (such as BTWinCap) should work, if the hardware is working. If switching software drivers doesn't solve the problem, then I would consider returning the card as DOA.

Thank you for your reply. I will do everything you suggested. I have already tried to find a main site for the "Super TV Tuner" card to no avail.

Is there another capture card brand or chipset you would recommended?

I was also wondering if it is possible that the problem could have something to do with my out dated video card??

I should also mention that I have not plugged in a video source into the capture card yet but I don't think that would cause a total PC lock up, would it?
