I applied to my XP SP2 the infamous "FIX: Update to enable DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) of Windows Media Video content in Windows Media Player 10" ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888656 ) patch and now after the patch Windows Media Player 10 crashes when I open divx movies. Also before the crash (when use slider to jump in time) there are problems with colors.

AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.3802 ModName: divxdec.ax

I have DivX 6 installed and XviD movies seems unaffected (XviD CODEC installed too).

Is this a known problem and/or is there any fix for the problem ?

Thanks in advance.

fl0: What decoder you use for XVID movies? divx, xvid, ffdshow... ? also what's your videocard and what's the drivers version? Is divx decoder updated to the latest version? have you installed any EVIL codec pack?

xDrJx: SP1? you should be crazy... there are NO valid reasons to not update to SP2. Paranoia is still not a valid option...

EDIT: sorry didn notice your spec were already there:)

@fl0
Maybe you should switch back to an older Nvidia Forceware driver pack.
The 77.72 Edition is somehow buggy as reported in different forums.
Last good one 71.**. Dont know the exect timestamp and number.
Just a hint.

Moved to S/W Players forum -- there may be more general help for WMP here; the replies in the DivX forum had gone OT.

Works fine for me also...

Which version of DivX's divxdec.ax do you have installed? Mine is 6.0.0.1571.

And... are you sure your problems are not DivXMedia.ax related?

Cheers

Apparently this is an issue with the MS patch to enable DXVA WMV-HD HW acceleration. I have the same exact problem with WMP10 regardless of what nVidia driver or DivX level I used. I started a thread on AnandTech and the only workaround found is to use ffdShow and 'hardcode' DivX to use Overlay Mode instead of High Quality Mode (VMR) in WMP10.
