I have been using DVDx so far to convert DVDs to DivX or XviD, which however makes absolutely no use of more than one processor core. Is there another program which is somewhat similar and can do multithreading? It would not have to be able to decrypt DVDs, since most I want to convert are not protected (and for the others there's DVD4Free or AnyDVD). Of course I'd prefer free programs! :)
Thanks!!!

P.S.: I tried TMPGEnc (which is multithreaded) so far, which I did not like at all since it was such a mixture of many programs and had not even a progress bar!

DVDx 2.3 automatically supports multi-cpu and HT in its decoding. tested on a P4(HT) and dual P3's.

Really?!? Oh boy, thats great! :)
It's much less great that I get only a CPU usage of 50% when using it... Strange... Any ideas?!? Which codec did you use?

This forum is for DVD to DVD backup programs, however it appears you want to discuss DVD to Divx/Xvid. If you want to continue along those lines I recommend you search the Xvid/Divx forums and start a thread there if you do not find your answers. I will leave this thread open in case I am mistaken.

Actually I wanted to discuss converting DVDs to any format, DivX and XviD were just an example... :)

Anyway, I now tested ripping a real DVD (till now I only used some short file without sound) with DVDx, and that proved to be MUCH better then expected! Indeed, processor usage was constantly at 80%, so the second CPU seemed to help a lot!!! (I don't know why that was so much different to the single file I tested...)
Tomorrow I will do some more testing, that's the least I can do. :)
Right now it seems I will be able to stay with DVDx, which is what I allways had hoped when buying an Athlon X2!!!

Update: Even though it seemed wo work with 2 CPUs (85% load according to taskmanager), I get exactly the same speed using DivX5.2.1. What about those 70% workload of the second core?!?
I used the option "/onecpu" in the boot.ini to switch one core off. I'm utterly confused now... ;)
