Hello, i have run into this problem now.
Well, my movie is PAL and i want to convert it to NTSC.
I have read many threads about it, i have to change the resize parameters, what are the parameters values?, but i don't know where and how and i think i also have to interlace the video, is there anything else i should do?, I mean where do you change this, in Avisynth.ini or DVD2SVCD.ini or DVD.ini settings?
Also, how do you do it?, what should i type?
I see many lines with weird sentences lines: (i.e.: ^=framerate=0)
Well, you get the point, i hope that you can help me as you always had in the past.
With nothing else to say, i wait for your answer... Thanks ^^.

Easiest way:
1) Check "Edit as part of Video Encoding" in the frameserver tab
2) start DVD2SVCD as normal
3) Let the audio extract, then a window appears with the avisynth script. There will be a line
*something*Resize(720,576)
What the *something is depends on what resizer you're using. The 720 width only applies to DVD, so it will be different for, say SVCD. Anyway, it's the 576 we're interested in - change it to 480 then click to continue.
4) After video encoding, stop the process and close DVD2SVCD and any running component.
5) Get DGPulldown - a forum search will find a link. Run it on your mpv file and check "25 --> 29.97" and click Convert.
6) In your movie folder you now have 2 MPV files - one with .pulldown in the name. Delete the original (without pulldown) and then rename the new file to remove the .pulldown - this now has the same name as the original file which you deleted.
7) Crash recover from Muxing and cutting
8) After muxing finishes, stop the DVD Author part. Open the xml file in your project folder in Notepad and switch "PAL" for "NTSC". Now open the DVD2SVCD logfile and highlight and copy the DVD Author commandline.
9) Do Windows Start Menu > Run > Paste into the box and press OK
10) Burn the resulting DVD files.

Do you know solution from pal avi to ntsc avi pulldown ?
What i want to accomplish is this: lets say i have 2 avi files one in ntsc
and one in pal.
I want to pulldown pal to ntsc to remain in avi format, then mixed pulldowned avi with original avi in ntsc
and then use avi2dvd
any solution?
Thanks

WOW, thanks for the reply Nick, you're as cool as always.
I'm sorry Nick, but i forgot to tell you that it is an .avi file that i'm dealing with. Do all these apply for PAL .avis as well?
On the other hand, that seems quite interesting to do all that!
I'm going to try it and i'll let you know the results though, i hope i get it right.
Now the other question is, after the change (PAL > NTSC) do i have to set the Avisynth script back to normal?, as well as the DVDAuthor script?...
Also, Crash recover for Muxing and cutting comes automatically or is this another program ?, is it within D2S?.
Ok, i'll go do the task but meanwhile let me know the answer ok?^^
Thanks once more, (^_^)v

@ Burning fury, if you're doing AVI2DVD this works fine and no, you don't have to put anything back afterwards.
@ SVCDPrayer - there's no easy way to do that. To merge 2 avi's they have to be of the same resolution and format. As the AVI's will have different framerates I can see no way to accomplish that.
All I could suggest is that you use "No Images" in the DVD Image tab. Convert each avi in AVI2DVD with a disc size of 2175. Do the NTSC one as normal and the PAL one as per the instructions above, but only as far as Number 5 where you run DGPulldown.
Then author the DVD manually in TMPGDA or DVD-Lab (or whatever) with the 2 mpeg streams as sequential items.

Hello Nick, well i went ahead and did as you said and here's where i'm stuck.
1-I picked the option under frameserver tab and i changed it for (480) as suggested.
2-I encoded the video and i stopped the process as told. By the way, i'm adding external subs to the movie as well, would that be a problem?, and also i'm using QuEnc as my Encoder, would 1 pass be ok?
3-I ran DGPulldown on my MPV file (Still PAL) and i obtained another file (29.97) with the .pulldown suffix. (What is curious is that this one comes out as an MPEG stream file). I also deleted the original MPV file and renamed my new one instead.
4-This is where i'm stuck, how do I Crash recover from muxing and cutting?.
I'm sorry for not knowing the answer to that Nick but i had to come to you since you are the one who knows better :-).
Also, which is the XLM file ?, the one for DVDAuthor?.
Please, i hope you can reply soon...I'm half way there, LOL
Anyways, thanks once more (T_T)v

Yes, the DVD Author xml file is the one you have to edit before you run DVD Author manually.
Subs shouldn't be a problem. Crash recover (misc tab - Recover button, open the project file then select Muxing and Cutting from the dropdown box before clicking "Continue") then let it run MPlex and SpuMux. Stop it when DVD Author runs, edit the XML and run the DVD Author commandline manually.

Hello Nick, i have some news...
I went and did everything you told me to do.
After the video encode, i ran the DGPulldown on my .MPV file, the resulting file (which is an mpeg) i renamed it to match the original.
I crashed recoverd as suggested, and it went fine.
The problem was when i ran DVDAuthor, i changed the XML file and i switched the "pal" for "ntsc", Started DVDAuthor and i ran it thru the command line given at D2S log file.
However, i only get about 18 min. worth of the movie!!!, the rest does not encode therefore, i end up with a "cut-off" movie...
i posted the log file so you can see what went wrong as well as the MPlex file.
Please help me find a fix...(^_^;)

As you can see, something went wrong with the video file.
Also, i've noticed that when you get to the part of running DVDAuthor it does not generate an ISO, so i burn the DVD files instead right?
ok, thanks^^
