@FredThompson, I didn't get the inner meaning of your sarcasm, sorry. AFAICS, my question was a straight forward one. There was already a discussion here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=96759) which mentioned about the non-availability of a proper VfW or CLI Dirac encoder. The project page doesn't show anything more than what was there the last time I checked it. So what exactly were you announcing here?

for what for ? avisynth is not usable under *nix machines yet. So, stop to dream...

and vfw is not very good actually.

avisynth work fine under wine. it is used by akupenguin(x264 developer).

This talks about BBC launching an open source website (which is a good thing) and now it looks like Dirac will be moved from Sourceforge to bbc.co.uk/opensource. But I still don't know how this news translates into 'Dirac is released'? Thanks for the /. link Kurtnoise13.

avisynth work fine under wine.

Wine is just an emulator...and it was not far so good when I've made some tests. I prefer to have a great and real portage. It's still in early developpment with avisynth 3.0.

and vfw is not very good actually.Make a GUI for it so common people can use it, like I did for x264. Also, *nix is not the only OS people use :p

We already have a couple of GUIs for x264, right? Then for AVISynth we have AVSGenie (http://www.yeomanfamily.demon.co.uk/avsgenie/avsgenie.htm), and guess we are all waiting for a VfW for Dirac.

Perhaps this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=96759) thread might help a bit. But simply put, there is no easy way to use it atm.
