FAQ
Q: What happened to the old site and the forum?
A: It was shutdown due to lack of user interest and user harassment.

Q: Is RealAnime still in development?
A: No, this is the final release.

Q: Will there be new releases after 3.0?
A: Very unlikely.

Q: How do I get support for RealAnime?
A: You can use Doom9's forum at http://forum.doom9.org.

Q: How will I fail to get support?
A: Easy! You can send me emails or instant messenging. It will be my
highest pleasure to ignore it and take some cool actions like spaming
it or build nice filters to do it automaticly.

Q: Is RealAnime still Open Source?
Q: Yes, but not public. Also, I will not provide source past 3.0.
Please email me if you want to get them.

input can not be .avs?
No. Please use built-in AVS for filtering. AVS as input is a major pain to handle.
tools-> ffdshow use my installed ffdshow or ffdshow in realanime? The installed one. RealAnime doesn't come with ffdshow. Please install Helix YUV Codecs v1.2 or else encoding may fail if you use filtering.

Added minimize to system tray.

Sirber
27th July 2005, 00:43
Removed AVS audio filtering.
Removed RMVB support. All output will now be MKV.
Added besweet and belight. All audio is decoded to WAV prior encoding. Should resolve our long standing bug when encoding vorbis files.

no native real output anymore? how about RealX264XviDVPxDivXFFDshowTOMKV as name? ;)

Sirber

RealAnime, the real way anime should be :p

Doom9
28th July 2005, 12:33
well, considering the affinity of Anime and Real (I guess it's due to Real's strong filtering not having much of an adverse effect on the content, unlike live action content), shouldn't it only support the Real codec then?

Sirber

Inloop, like AVC?
shouldn't it only support the Real codec then?
Why, do you see me as a competitor for GUIing x264?

Doom9
28th July 2005, 13:19
Why, do you see me as a competitor for GUIing x264?Well, quite obviously you are, but that's not why I mention it. Today was the first time I actually read the featureset of your software.. I always figured the name real was used because of the video codec. But you could argue the same about MeGUI.. since the support of x264.exe it is possible to encode completely without mencoder, and the addition of mkvmerge only offers more possibilities not to use mencoder.

Sirber
28th July 2005, 13:37
ok. It indeed started with real codecs only, but then VFW codecs has been added (~2.20) including xvid, later on x264 VFW and now x264 CLI. Later on I will add nero codecs to my audio codec list. Technology is going on, so I have to update :)

Hello Sirber,
I've tried your software and I find it good, thx for it...

A suggestion though: can you allow for input and output of audio files only? so that aac, wav, or mp3 files for example can be encoded to he-aac audio, perhaps in an mp4 container?

Edit: I've noticed for default values you have "Ref" set on 8, is there any benifit in terms of quality/speed when this value is set over 5?

Hello Sirber,
I've tried your software and I find it good, thx for it...Thanks! :D

A suggestion though: can you allow for input and output of audio files only? so that aac, wav, or mp3 files for example can be encoded to he-aac audio, perhaps in an mp4 container? In final 3.0, it will accept perfectly video and audio inputs, but output will be limited to MKV.
Edit: I've noticed for default values you have "Ref" set on 8, is there any benifit in terms of quality/speed when this value is set over 5?IMO speed will not change much, as well quality. But, 1 vs 8, speed will not chamge much either but Q will be lower.

oh well I'm glad to hear that it will accept audio inputs perfectly :) the intention behind my suggestion was to allow realanime to also be an audio encoder, so as to convert different audio streams to he-aac audio.

Too sad. T_T no output for rmvb. I was waiting to encode from OGM to RMVB.
I've tried to use another program to encode from OGM to AVI. I was success but there is no subtitle. Do you guys know anyway to convert from OGM to AVI or RMVB with Subtitle?

Sirber
19th August 2005, 20:07
RealAnime can do: OGM (video, audio, subtitle) --> MKV (video, audio, subtitle)
RMVB is outdated.

Sharktooth

Can it do OGM/MKV -> MP4 with all the bells and whistles (supposing video is already mpeg-4 and converting audio to AAC if necessary...) ?

hi, can you bring back rmvb output
i prefer rmvb when i am encoding using realvideo & realaudio format

ggab

does it need BeSweet (+ BeLight?) to work?
because before, i've got a
"[06:36:30] >> Found: .avi
[06:36:30] > Tracks: Video: 1, Audio: 1, Subtitle: 0
[06:36:30] > Encoding video track... done.
[06:36:33] >> Converting RAW to AVI... done.
[06:36:34] > Converting audio track to WAV... error #2
[06:36:34] Encoding session aborted."

and with both apps. in \BeSweet everything is OK (the wav file in avi's folder)

PS: why does the default bitrate decrease from 536 to 436? how about the quality?

edit: a big thank for this super great program! i like it very much

no. It cannot output MP4. I though about it but since no one cared before, it's not in. IMO MKV is more flexible, but it's not HW compatible.
hi, can you bring back rmvb output

I'm affraid you will have to stick to an older version. Unless you are using RealPlayer, MKV is a lot better than RMVB.

PS: why does the default bitrate decrease from 536 to 436? how about the quality?
Since x264 is the new default, and because it perform better than RV10, in my tests 436kbps gives excellent
results on anime content and about 85-90MB in file size. You can always set it back to 536 :)
yeah.. I know that RMVB is outdated but I still like it because it can save me a lot of my hdd space.
Well, I did not remove RealVideo and RealAudio, just the container (RMVB). RealAnime will continue to output your small files :)

maybe there is a way to disable the read/scan in A: at start (i hope u can "fix it" :) )

uhm.... where can i set my BeSweet Dir ? it can't seem to find it under C:\Program Files\RealAnime ( neither could I ) but since it's outputting to MKV, I guess I can take the video file and mux it myself..... I'm all thumbs up for MKV output, but some pepole are more happy with plain rmvb, maybe you can leave a option to let the user choose for themself.

one more question, is the video bitrate separate from the audio bitrate?
I remember in an old version the actual video bitrate is after you deduct the audio bitrate..... how is it set in this version??

Sirber
21st August 2005, 05:07
seems I forgot to add besweet to the installer. Let me post a new version :)

I removed the RMVB option to light the code.

about bitrate, the one you set is video only.

New version up, 11MB :D

the source that i cant encode is:

ggab
21st August 2005, 19:48
ok :)

All audio is decoded to WAV prior encoding. Should resolve our long standing bug when encoding vorbis files
* another question:
as now every enconding session creates a WAV file...
is it really necesary to decode all sources audio formats (excluding vorbis files, no?) to "plain" WAV?
because, a 80min file, will result in a 700mb file.avi.wav , 2hs movie = 1gb (temporal HD usage)

Sirber
21st August 2005, 20:36
People (including me :D) usualy encode 170-230MB AVI files to smaller ones. All files go through besweet to adjust the delay and to normalyze the audio. Also, producer has much less issues encoding from WAV than other container.

In 3.0 final, you will be able to skip audio encoding and keep the source.

if a video file is opened in VirtualDub, and i click in Start Encode in R.Anime, it fails with "Erreur E/S 32" window box

do u think it is important to fix/solve that?

*Tests*

with these sources:

Video: IV41 160x120 7.00fps
Audio: Microsoft GSM 6.10 22050Hz mono 35Kbps

and

Video: DivX 3 320x240 14.86fps
Audio: Windows Media Audio 22050Hz mono 20Kbps) (DivX WMA Audio Compressor)

[04:49:37] > Analysing the source...
[04:49:37] >> Found: .avi
[04:49:37] > Tracks: Video: 1, Audio: 1, Subtitle: 0
[04:49:37] > Encoding video track... done.
[04:49:45] > Converting audio track to WAV... error #58
[04:49:46] Encoding session aborted.

#1 does it mean that Realanime can't re-encode to WAV some audio codecs?

#2 i have a lot of anime clips to re-encode, but are from 160x120 @ 7fps to 640x480 @ 30fps
do i need to change several/various settings for a RV10 or x264 encode with these sources within Realanime? or the only (important) parameter would be the bitrate (for video and audio)?
maybe with a 320x240 @ 25fps clip, 300kbps for video is just enough; 200x150 @ 20fps, in 200kbps, etc

#3 is there a way to log the output from encoder (bottom of RealAnime's Log window) when x264 is setted? (because RV10 has its own producer.log...)

PS: Thanks a lot for the great support pal!
RealAnime rocks, ANIME & J-Pop rocks, Sirber rocks! :)

1) I think besweet doesn't support other things than MP3, MP2, AAC, OGG and AC3. Troublesome...

2) for 640x480@24, I use 436kbps. I never tryed with lower rez, since I'm only interrested in high Q :) Best is to try by yourself.

3) Bottom is only ythe last line. I will check if I can enable x264 logging.

Producer crash: I think it's related to MPEG audio decompressed to WAV. I will look at it ASAP.

I found an app to convert AVI to WAV. I will use it if besweet don't directly support it.

Maybe I will drop MPEG support... It's not widely used anymore (in anime world) and I have no source to test :(

Non-MP3 AVI source will be denied. Also, all inputs will be up/down sampled to 44.1kHz.

can i use an auxiliar WAV file as input (for example extracted with virtualdubmod), and ignore the source audio in a video clip?

that is because he-aac uses 44100hz in 48kbps and 64kbps profiles?

I found an app to convert AVI to WAV. I will use it if besweet don't directly support it.
which one? //could u include it in next release as an optional way to get a "correct" WAV temp file?
Maybe I will drop MPEG support
i like the MPEG v1 support, maybe u could leave it as a legacy feature (or optional, well who knows.....)
Non-MP3 AVI source will be denied
is this restriction also with Mpeg Layer 1 and 2?
no way to make it softer? (it sounds very restrictive...)

tks
