This little "effect" plagues 2 hdtv movies I have, regardless of what decoder I run them through.
I have plenty of other hdtv movies that has no issue whatsoever, so this seems fortunately quite rare. Annoying, but rare.
Movies:
Donnie Darko (1080i .ts, HBO)
the Fifth Element (1080p .ts, flagged as progressive with 3:2 pulldown IIRC)
Software:
Theatertek, Zoom Player, VLC, Powerdvd, windvd.
Decoders:
Nvidia
Dscaler
Cyberlink
Sonic Cineplayer
Nero
ffdshow´s 2 internal decoders
I´ve pretty much tried all the settings I could find,
with no result.
What I did find to help, in the end, was to use the DCT filter
in ffdshow, which removed the lines alltogether.
I can´t say I saw much of a PQ difference with or without DCT,
so I assume it´s somewhat harmless.
Getting smooth playback however, seems impossible.
I combined all the decoders I could with ffdshow,
and even let ffdshow handle the decoding,
but all mixtures gave the same lagged playback.
Computer specs:
P4 2.8ghz
512 MB ram
Geforce 6600 256MB PCIe (77.72 drivers)
Is there anyone with a bit more insight who could
tell me why this happends.. and why DCT seems to remedy this plague?
If I understand it correctly, (shallowly as it may be)
DCT is peformed while encoding, iDCT with playback;
the DCT filter does DCT and iDCT.
Is there something wrong with the 2 .ts files
which makes most decoders choke?
As a sidenote, I did notice that dgmpgdec 1.40 rc6
enabled me to playback the files without the vertical lines..
Again, why would that be?
Any help would be greatly appriciated;
