I am trying to convert an avi file from my Digital camcorder to Nero Digital, but I can't get it to work.

When I open Nero Recode, I choose "Recode DVDs and Videos to Nero Digital" then click on DVD Data files. I then select my .avi file and click "Add Files".

The problem is that the "Next" button is greyed out. It won't let me go any further. Can you not convert DV files from a camcorder to Nero Digital? Am I choosing the wrong options somewhere?

Thanks for any advice.

When I open Nero Recode, I choose "Recode DVDs and Videos to Nero Digital" then click on DVD Data files. I then select my .avi file and click "Add Files".

Why do you click on "DVD data files"? I don't know this app, but I think it expects a DVD if you choose this. So it won't accept an AVI. If you have DirectX 9 installed, you should have a DV codec, or you can install FFDShow and enable it's DV codec. But I don't think it is a problem with decoding.
I'll download Nero Digital and will try it. Anyway, don't forget about setting correct pixel aspect ratio. It isn't 1,0 if your source is a DV or DVD.

I just installed it and I have to say it was the first and also the last time I tried the SW. It works if you do what I mentioned before, but there are meny issues:
1) Kerio Firewall reports an illegal instruction when adding video
2) By default there is checked Automatic cropping. It will crop the movie to a 720x544 resolution. You'll lost the original resolution.
3) I didn't find a way to set an aspect ratio for the video.
4) I didn't find a way to use AVC, only ASP with limitted settings could have been used.

I wouldn't suggest to anybody to use this SW. I would rather use XviD (if you want ASP) or x264 (MPEG-4 AVC - still in early development) and matroska container. If you want HW players support, you won't be able to play MP4 files on most players anyway.
