ok, here it goes,
XviD has a smaller 1st pass, nero digital has a smalled 1st pass, even divx converter has a smalled 1st analyzing pass, then why does divx encoding manually is like, extreme for both passes, i mean, it takes around the same time for both passes? or should i use balanced for 1st pass and extreme or insane for second?
also, will a divx 6 encoded avi, with srt subs and mp3 or aac audio, all this in mkv container work?

You definitely can use the “balanced” mode for your first pass (not the “fastest” though), also Psychovisual and H263-optimized should be avoided during first pass. Thought, make sure to keep the resolution, B frame, MPEG4 options consistent.
