I'm a complete newbie with Delphi, but I grabbed the CVS head of Gknot and made a small change to see if something I wanted will work.

Thing is, I have no idea how to compile it. I saw the mention in the readme that I'll "probably need Delphi 7", but where do I get the Delphi compiler in *any* version?

I'm using Windows XP. Can someone break down the basic steps of getting, installing, and running a delphi compiler?

Thanks for your time.

The trial version of Delphi is available from Borland's website. I'm not sure if they still have version 7 there though (I would not recommend using later versions).

It appears that it isn't. The only thing marked Delphi 7 is something which is just a trial key, for which you need a CD. The only downloadble version is the "Delphi 2005 Architect Trial". Am I sore out of luck?

well, with 2005 you will still be able to compile it, obviously. Its just its really heavy and .NET oriented...

Delphi 2005 personal is free, I got it from a magazin CD. Additionally I recommend to download the free Visual Studio Express versions.
