I recently purchased Nero's Audio encoder - Use it under Encode Tracks to convert to 5.1 ac3 files.
My problem is, my work entitles resurrecting old company training video's and my boss insist's on keeping the 5.1 although for training video's it's a bit silly.
The source is allready ac3 5.1.
Nero accepts the 5.1 and converts to 5.1 however the volume always comes out WAY to soft.
Any ideas on what settings to change, or how to amplify the volume ?
I'm taking the audio from 383kbps to 192kbps.
Thanks in advance

There should be a "Gain" parameter: give it a 10 value and try.
Should it not be there, i suggest HeadAC3 as gain in besweet has never worked for me.

Will try. Thanks.
Does HeadAC3 do 5.1 though because BeSweet only does 2.0 ?

Sure thing.
But Besweet is capable of 5.1 no prob.
Just that is not as loud as the source and i've found no way of "amplifing" it.

Problem with setting up nero gain.
You can set a value for each channel ( duh :-) ) but for input AND output.
I set input to -25 and output to 25 for each channel and still very soft.
I am being stupid or just missing something blatently obvious ?

You are abating the input by 25dB and amplifing the output by 25dB.
This is as if you are doing nothing.
Try amplifing the outbut by 10dB.

Man, do I feel like an idiot.
Had a good laugh when I read your reply.
Thanx.

Interesting thread here. PJones, is the Nero AC3 encoder as good as i would expect a Nero encoder to be? High quality and nice sounds?

The encoder works nice and crisply however can be a pain to get it to work correctly.
At times I use the same settings and get 2.0 sound, at others I get 5.1 but with very soft sound. Still playing with it to get the correct options seeing that I can't find any doc's for it and never got any with it.
If anyone has any ideas or comments, I'd love to hear them . :-)

Why don't you try HeadAC3?
It gives me perfect results and seems even of a higher quality in respect to Besweet in relation to dynamics.
Ant it's free ;)

I tested the Nero stereo to DD5.1 and the link below shows my personal results. I have found out you can also use this converter with on the fly capturing. It works with a DV camcorder (even recording live by firewire) or a TV capture, using the DVD MPEG2 profile, it will buffer more frames to the hard drive when doing this though.
