Hello all,
I have always been a noob recording VHS tapes to Avi, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance to increase quality in this particular case.
Not long ago I purchased a hardware mpeg encoder (Conexant Blackbird design) and now I record directly from VHS to mpeg2 to burn DVDs.
However, I am struggling with a movie that contains a lot of noise. The movie was recorded in EP mode and is 4 hours long. The TV application I use let me access a couple of video built-in filters in the mpeg hardware chip that, to be frank, I have no idea what they are for, but make me think they could increase the quality of the video.
(While recording, the CPU usage is zero, even with the video filters settings activated.)
The following is a screenshot of the video filter settings available for direct mpeg encoding:

Now, I would like to avoid using virtualdub or avisynth because there is no CPU overhead if I use these settings instead.
Doing a goggle search did not yielded useful information regarding how to use them properly or a plain English explaining of what they do.
Can anybody help me ??
